Wow, cool dude! lol i had to read that last semester in Civics class. I read three pages of it and "spark noted" all the rest. Got a 101% in the class for 1st semester so i guess it worked. XD I honestly couldn't handle the book. It was so depressing. I'm not gonna spoil it for ya if you haven't already read it, but be prepared for a very unhappy and gloomy book.

Just a heads up.

This is so weird. When I saw your topic title, I immediately thought of that book. It's a very good book that had rather unintended consequences on Upton Sinclair's part. He wanted to show the horrible living conditions that these workers toiled under and how they were being exploited. What happened actually, was that the public really only zeroed in on the parts about disgusting meat-processing methods. After the book was released, the Pure Food and Drug Act was released and Teddy Roosevelt publicly said that he felt "poisoned" by the practices that these food processing plants used. It really drew away from the hardships that many immigrant workers faced in the US. It's great to see that younger people are reading this.

Just like MQ, the title immediately made me think of Upton Sinclair. Thank you US History class. :)

I might just read it.

Oh trust me I was capable of reading it XD, but I chose not to. Number one, because i hate reading tbh, and at the time we had to read it, I had an 8 page research paper and 2 speeches to work on as well. Its been a long time since ive been interested in a book were required to read for school lol.

Anyway yea i agree with MQ tho. Upton was trying to prove and depict a point about the horrible condidtions that the immigrants had to weather thru.

It worked too. :)
