He's entitled to his opinion.

I personally rather read Harry Potter than some 100yr old literature for English class.

Where do i start?

The Wheel of Time, The Sharpe Series, The Hannibal Series, Ash (A Secret History) [Despite it's obvious historical innacuracies], Anything by Bernard Cornwall, the collective works of David Gemmel RIP, A History of the Soviet Union (Absolutely fascinating), The God Delusion, anything by Varg Vikernes (Despite not being books, amazing pieces of literature), The overwhelming majority of Shakespeare's work, etc etc etc

I could go on.

If in 100 years our country hasn't degenerated to a mindless society of inbred fools, and we regain some common sense, i hope things like Macbeth and Tess of the D'urbervilles get pushed onto people in english literature lessons, as opposed to this Harry Potter *******.

You do realise, right, that Macbeth (like nearly everything Shakespeare wrote) was written for the entertainment of others. It was written for people to enjoy them and during that time, people did. Nowadays, we study his works for different reasons.

Harry Potter was written for children/young adults/adults to enjoy. I'm not suggesting that in 200 years, people will be studying it in their Literature 101 classes, but there's no reason to suggest that it's inferior just because it's about a boy wizard who seeks to defeat his enemy. If anything, getting younger people to read anything at all on their own accord should be celebrated. I still would like to know what you dislike about the books and why you felt the need to post here when the title clearly is about discussing book 7.

You don't enjoy Shakespeare?

I'll agree with you at some points here - Children should be encouraged to read. The amount of people i know who don't, even once a week, sit down and read a book, is absolutely appalling. I come from a family where i was encouraged to read from an incredibly young age - I read LoTR for the first time when i was 8 years old. Libraries in this country are having shelves of books removed and replaced with scores of computer clusters for the phillistines to check their emails, it's disgraceful. The country's populace, as a whole, needs to read more in order to educate itself more.

Thats more than enough sociological banter from me, for a while at least. I'm not entirely sure what my problem with Harry Potter is, in all honesty. I've read all the books, the latter 3 merely so that i didn't leave the series unfinished (something i abhor doing), not through any great love of the mediocre literature itself. I'm not a fan of Mr's Rowlings works at all, the story is mediocre, the characters are bland, and i've got absolutely no idea how it got so popular.

The only thing i enjoyed about HP7 was Dobby getting stabbed.

Most people read for a STORY, not to analyze characters.

I don't see how being rude is going to help you get your point across. To answer your question, no, I don't enjoy Shakespeare. That doesn't mean that I don't value it as literature. If you're not fond of the Harry Potter books, that's fine..not all people are. But if you're going to come on here and assert your opinion in a way that seeks to offend people rather than make a statement, that's considered flaming. So, please, rather than asking people "What does that have to do with what I said?" try putting forth what you didn't like/understand about the Harry Potter books.

There are some things that I didn't like. I didn't like how Harry didn't have that big of a deal with people risking their lives for him. Granted, I know that he can't spend the entire book upset over it..but I didn't feel like he cared enough later on when the stakes were raised at Hogwart's.

Why hasn't anyone said "This is not what discussion is about, plese keep on the topic?" xD

Sure, Harry Potters do have quite poor sense of literature compared to shakespeare, but i find HP books entertaining.

Yeah,I mean why does it have to be written with great words and stuff to be any good?

And honestly, i think there is a small portion of the population that are looking forward to getting there hands on a Shakespeare book that they havent read.... I only read him because I have ti in school, along with almost all of my student body. I think I have only meet 2-3 kids who read him for fun.

(that wasent suppose to be a rude comment in the slightest btw)
