It all depends on where you live. For example, I live in suburban Houston and we have absolutely no decent public transportation and everything is too spread out for a bike to be effective. Therefore, I use my car much more than I would use my bike.
On the other hand, in cities like NYC, Chicago, and DC, which have amazing subway/metro/el systems it isn't worth the effort to drive through congested traffic. You can pratically get anywhere you want to faster and cheaper.
As for the argument between cars and motorbikes, I prefer cars. It's really up to personal preference anyway, both can be used effectively, but both can also eat through a tank of gas in no time if you want to; it all depends on the driver.
