Just wondering, why would global WARMING make things colder?

Japan is going to drown as well as Britain, not to mention all the little islands in the pacific, and Indonesia.

it is too late to stop the effects of global warming - however, it may be possible to stop it from progressing. George bush isnt going to sign the Kyoto Agreement because he makes so much money from Oil. (which is basically pure carbon )

Problem is, the people who made this problem will be dead and gone before the consequence starts to kick in.

If you've seen "The Day After Tomorrow", you'll know that what may happen is - giant tidal wave - tidal wave freezes - get eaten by wolves.

So There we have it, we make sure wolves are all locked up - we'll be fine :) :P

But seriously, there are many different sources of energy we could use instead of carbon based fuel. Why not use the effects of Global Warming to our advantage, and use water to power things. Or possibly win, *gasps* how about this - sunlight, we're sure to be getting a lot more because of this..

I think there's a chance that if the polar ice melted and flooded across the world, we would endure another ice age, which will eventually bring us back to the good ol' neolithic revolution. So maybe in a good million years we'll be back to this same round-table discussion.

Actually Carbon Dioxide is bad.

Carbon monoxide is the one that reacts irreversibly with the heamoglobin in your blood and kills you. Carbon dioxide is the one that contributes to global warming.

And the thing about nuclear war is true, as well. We could all die right now. How nice.

Actually methane contributes more to global warming than co2. and cows and rice fields are the main contributors to that. Kill the cows and bomb the rice pickers. Sacrifice a few to save the many.

Is it too late for the earth?

To put it bluntly. Yes.

We're all going to die from an apocalypse. Not just any natural apocalypse, an apocalypse humans created.

Jeez, medieval times were so much better...

Look on the bright side.

At least we'll all have swimming pools in our gardens.

Just because I'm facing facts that god will not save us from our own destruction does not mean i don't believe in a god or gods. You do not know me so please do not assume you do, a mistake many make.

Now, back on topic since you obviously ignored what i said about bringing that stuff back up into the post.

Global warming obviously heats up the earth, less sunlight is reflected back into space. Less ice in the polar regions = less sunlight reflected and also = more fresh water dumped into the oceans. Which disturbs the oceans currents of cold and warm water. It does not necessarily mean that the world will flood, water will rise yes, but not 500feet etc. Not all the ice is going to melt.

What will most likely happen is similar to "The Day After Tomorrow", this is going by what i think will happen. I believe that the northern hemisphere will be affected most, buried under 20feet+ of snow and ice. The great lakes, Lake Michigan, Erie etc were all carved out from ice ages. Caused by a "natural" ice age and climate change. Earth has gone through many of these.

This article is basically saying that since pretty much the industrial age, humans have majorly increased the speed of when and how our climate will change. Either way, as long as humans are on earth, we will experience ice ages no matter what. We just need to be prepared for it.

When the ice age hits, most of the majority of the northern hemisphere will be covered in ice and snow. This in the end reflects alot more sunlight into space and is a cooling trend, allowing earth too cool. Green house gases become trapped in the ice in the polar regions. That is why scientists worry about the polar caps melting as well, because they are filled with their own natural green house gases.

On the news this morning, I heard that pver the next 2000 years or so the worlds sea level will rise by 7 metres.

At least that means I'm safe

I hope..

Another interesting fact, for every 1inch rise in sea level at least 8 feet of beach is eroded and destroyed.

I was discussing this with my friends at lunch earlier today.

We came up with the idea that we are still in the middle of an 'ice age', but we have gradually become accustomed to the climate.

Over the past few decades, 'global warming', caused by gases being pumped into the atmosphere by burning oil, coal and so on, has NOT caused the climate to change, but speed it up.

Think about it, the first ice age happened long before global warming, yet the polar ice caps melted anyway and froze over most of europe and many other continents.

The ice then melted, again, and refroze at the most northern and southern parts of the earth. All without global warming ;-)

Now, the polar ice caps are melting again, and what will happen is there will be tidal waves, floods and so forth. And these will eventually cause a 'second' Ice age freezing the planet.

Now, I'm not saying that 'Global Warming' isnt to blame, but I am saying that the cause of this is NOT because of burning fuel. It is simply making the ice melt FASTER.

As before, humans will survive, animals will survive, we will just have to adapt to our surroundings, like all living creatures do. evolution

Who knows.. we might grow gills and live underwater... that would solve any worries about drowning..

Edit: I do think that people are looking for somene to blame. This is impossible to stop, but it was also impossible to prevent. It can however be delayed..

Oh - 700th post :) Had to make it a big one ;-)

Actually without carbon, none of us would be here :P.

I think that banning carbon-based fuels would be a lot easier than banning carbon-based plants and animals . Just a thought... ;)

Very good article, krazzi. It's always annoyed me to see how little was done ten years ago to combat pollution. Regardless of how little information we had on global warming and such, there is no excuse to simply ignore it until it becomes a worldwide problem. Even now, countries (even those who preach environmental reform) still commit acts of pollution that is simply making the situation worse. I'm not a "tree-hugger" but I worry about the day where parts of the world are submerged and we have to walk around wearing gas masks because we're being sickened by the filth we've created.

:D Slogan? Kill the Carbon. :D Besides the fact that banning carbon-based fuels would be easier than banning carbon-based plants, it is also more fruitful.

Since Carbon-based organisms release their stored Carbon when they die, nothing would be accomplished by a ban on Carbon-based organisms as there would be even more Carbon released in killing the life-forms and such, nothing solved.

You could, however, kill the organisms in a airtight cell but the cell would just break down in years to come, not to mention this method would be expensive, strange, and just plain sick. o.0
