Lol if anyone needs a drug test it's Phelps to be honest. 15 gold medals, all consecutive events, 8 of which in Beijing. I read in the paper today that he has a 12,000 calorie a day diet, and if he didn't swim, he'd be well over 30st (420lbs) now.
I'm guessing you haven't been watching NBC alot.
They did a small biographical segment on him and he said that he spent
hours each day doing drug tests. They said that some drug testing company (don't remember all the details, search NBC.com for them) asked for volunteers from all the olympic athletes. The reason they were doing these tests was to show that you can still play - and win - without using drugs.
If Phelps used Drugs then he wouldn't have even been in the opening ceremonies. He volunteered to spend his time to show the world that the Olympics were still a clean sport.
He could use those hours for training or rest instead but he chose not to. When you get a shot in your arm, does it hurt? I'm not talking about the slight sting of the needle piercing your skin, I'm talking about the soreness you feel for the rest of the day. You may not want to lift heavier things, or you may not want to move your arm as high.
I'm no expert on the drug tests he takes, but they most likely have to take a blood sample
every day in order to do them. Instead of getting two to four shots every 6 months to a year like most Americans, he was getting one (or most likely more)
each day during the Olympics.
The soreness caused by the testing needles would've caused Phelps to actually perform
worse than he normally would. Even while being pricked daily, he was still able to break world records, most notably being his eight gold medals over Spitz's seven.
With that said...
My most favorite Athlete would be Shawn Johnson of the Women's Gymnastic team.
My next would be Nastia Liukin, also of the Women's Gymnastic team.
Then Johnathan Horton of the Men's Gymnastic team.
Then Usain Bolt, of Jamaica's Tract team.
Then Natalie Coughlin of the Women's Swimming team.
And of course Michael Phelps of the Men's Swimming team.
