People in this area started a campaign to stop these people from building this. Why? Because they are xenophobic idiots. All they want to do is have a bigger place and just be left alone but NO! YOU ARE MUSLIM SO YOU MUST BE A TERRORIST! YOU DON'T DESERVE ANY OF THE RIGHTS IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS!
Wasn't part of the reason we broke away from Britain because we wanted religious freedom? Why shouldn't these people have it? Oh right, only white people get rights because everyone else is inferior!

We claim to be the freest country on earth. Are we?

The Declaration of Independence says that all men are created equal. Do we believe that?

Another thing, I am not bashing Christianity but the majority of the people in this area are Christian so I will talk about them: the Bible says "You shall love your neighbor as you love yourself." Are we loving our neighbors?

In conclusion, AMERICA! **** YEA!

I really don't care where they build their mosques, but seriously, putting one on ground zero feels like a slap in the face.

Now that I agree with. It would be like building a shooting range next to Columbine.

I always take the time to ask myself how would a muslim country react in our shoes. It usually results in a stoning or some other barbaric behavior so i have little simpathy on the matter. Tho there reasoning for not wanting it seems rather retarded.

Spoiler for off topic freedomthing:

No. I don't think you did break away from us because you wanted religious freedom actually. I think you broke away from us because you didn't like us taxing the **** out of you. Cheap bunch of whatevers not paying your rent. In fact if you lot hadn;t acted so selfishly problems like this wouldn't arise!

We could of dealt with Germany far more easily and might not have lost so much power trying to put them down the first time round (I think the world should thank us for that by donating a pound per person as we're in need of money right now) although admittedly we did all our fighting in any country but our own (can't get our lovely green feilds bloody now can we?) but that's besides the point. Anyway then the Empire would of continued to grow and spread. World war 2 would never start because Germany wouldn't of been allowed to invade Austria because Austria would of been apart of the Empire by then with railroads for all. India would never of been let go just because some hippy was asking us nicely. And thus our march of world peace would of continued and there would of been plenty more railroads and medical breakthroughs for all to come.

Eventually we'd work our way over to places like Iraq and convert them to our way of life or alternatively treat them like second class citizens. Eventually if they didn't play ball we'd ship them to our grand high security prison Australia where they'd serve life with a possiblity of being transfered to a lower security prison (new zealand) for good behavior.

And the world would be united under one banner. Technological progress would sky rocket. We'd solve cancer and global warming. And turn our eyes towards the sky. Colonizing the moon and building a giant digital clock on it's surface so everybody on planet earth can see the time. And then we'd begin our campaign of mars and the war on the martians. Again - not ******* on our own doorstep we'd fight it on mars. The war of course is over the colour of mars. It's red. We can't have such a rebelious planet in our galaxy and so they'd quickly fall under Churchills leadership (by now we've discovered cloning) and we'd paint the planet in the colours of the union jack. Which no longer exists because scotlands been fired into the sun and wales and ireland are just apart of the Empire. then we'd leave our Galaxy for a trip to M31 where we'd discover more alien life and introduce the railroad to them in exchange for laser guns. Then we'd enslave them and continue on our way.

I'm writing a book please order a copy.

Sheese. That's a massive place. 52,000 sq. ft. is nothing to wink at. Anyways, it's one thing to build it at ground zero in NYC because of the circumstances, but anywhere else it shouldn't be an issue. This country is about freedom, esp. of religion. Plus, people shouldn't be branding or profiling people based on race or religion. If 9/11 never happened, would that be going on now. Most likely not, at least not to this degree. And not every Islamic person is a terrorist. Where's the basis for this hatred and anger?

Fox News + Republicans = Terrorist Republicans. This can also be expressed as FN + R = T + R, which can be further reduced to FN = T. Fox News is Terrorism. It actually makes sense when you see how they're always trying to scare people with **** like this mosque. "The Muslims are taking over.", etc., etc.. They take advantage of peoples' terror. Pretty much the definition of terrorism.
Anyway... Some nutter will end up attacking the mosque and/or its attendees in some way. A taxi driver has already been stabbed by someone just for being Muslim. We are supposed to rise above this sort of behavior, not fall to the same level.

As for this particular mosque, who cares? It's just another building where people get together to waste time talking to their imaginary friend(s). One of the great things about the US is the government can't tell you which imaginary friend(s) you're allowed to talk to and/or build places of worship to on private property.

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

On a funny but serious note, I don't think Jesus could be a republican. Wouldn't he be more for Monarchies or Theocracies technically speaking? But I digress...

Fox News is Fox News; free speech is free speech. People should be intelligent enough to discern news for themselves and not depends on a company or station to do it for them. As for the mosque, I think religions should respect each other and the normal non-practicing population. The mosque near ground zero just doesn't seem like a respectful move on the Muslims part. I'm not saying it shouldn't have been done, just that the Muslims should understand and respect the circumstances around it. That aside, it's a building just like any other and people need to be willing to move past 9/11. Yes it was terrible, but what's done is done. Move on already. Not all Muslims are terrorists, so don't generalize and treat them all like that.

Yea, as I said above

offtopic: why are you (earth) acting like your an american :P

ontopic: i agree with duke in saying building one near ground 0 is just not right. Might as well build one in washington d.c. and inviting all the terrorist's to it.

I think you'll probably find there are lots of mosques in Washington DC, as in any major city in developed countries.

----

As speaking from a Non-religious background, it's a building. Just a building. People could practice their religion anywhere, but many religions prefer to do it in a central location. It's not like building a mosque is going to do any harm. We aren't living in Spain in the 1500's anymore.

On another note, people who laugh at the absurdity of the outrage should watch some of the Canadian TV show "Little Mosque on the Prairie". It basically deals with the same issue, but with a mosque being built in Canada's redneck land.
