1. oil is turned into gas. Oil is sold a $60 a barrel at the current date, these are 50 gallon drums.

2. Refrined, most ppl think that all of the oil in one barrel is turned into gas,NO only about 40-50% of the oil is turned into gas. here is wat one barrel of gas is turned into. Also there are 7 refiners in ameria, we have enough oil we just cant turn it into gas fast enough.

The missing 5.23 gallons evaperates in the refrine process.

So lets go some math, 20 gallonsx$3.00=$60.

3.Mk this is why gas is so expensive. $1.00 tax is added to ever gallon of gas sold. There is talk of suspending the gas tax, gas would drop a whole dollar

Oil is sold in 50 gallon drums, after refrine there is only 45 gallons used, so 5 gallons is lost in the refrine process

Gas is expensive because oil company corporates decide on how much they will sell it for, therefore they decide whether it's going to be high or not.

Also that is data fom 2004, its bound to have changed a bit from that time.

also, the thing is, is Exon CAN up the price with no worries. People need it, and they have it. They are the main supliers of gas, so, if they raise it, not much will compete

You think America has expensive fuel? Ha.

Anyway, I believe in price gouging. If the demand of a commodity (like fuel) is high, the price is raised so that supply remains stable. Do you honestly think that with such high demand for a non-renewable resource, the should be lowered so the supply becomes scarce? The fact that gas prices are high ensures that people who need the gas will get it if they're willing to pay.

That's how capitalism works. If the demand is high and something affects the supply (i.e. politics or a refinery catching on fire), the price rises. It can also work the other way; if demand is low or the supply is high, the price lowers. With this logic, can you claim that lower prices is bad? That's how an economy works, get used to it. I'm sick of hearing people complain about gas prices, do yourself a favour and ride a bicycle.

Don't forget to add that, the middle east is a strong provider of oil, what you said has been around for ages, correct me if I'm wrong though, I'm pretty sure It's the war, and that it's sucking all of out money away, is why gas is so expensive.

Ok, So you're whining that you're getting $3 a gallon for your fuel. Look at the prices of English Fuel a second:

At the moment, we're just edging towards £1/litre. There are 4.5 Litres in a gallon, so thats £4.50 / gallon. Now convert that into US Dollars, that makes nearly $8.50.

NOW STOP WHINING.

Ok, i admit, our petrol is a lot better than your gas. Yours has a far lower octane percentage, and just coughs out horrible amounts of gases for the number of miles you do. What do your cars do on your gas? Five miles to the gallon? Ours can easily do 40MPG. Maybe you should switch to using the decent petrol us Brits use.

Also, you might consider WALKING, or maybe cycling or something. Ive heard stories of people getting in the car to drive to their next door neighbours house. Thats just disgusting. You have legs for a reason. I walk a mile to school every day, and a mile back, whatever the weather.

Walking is the worst way to travel around in a sprawling suburban city in Arizona.

Simple, hybrid cars get 60MPG. Owned.

Public transit isn't?

Actually, the Prius is the only hybrid alleging 60mpg. Even at that, the actual reality of the statistic is loosely-based and requires a lot of fine-tuning to actually achieve. Secondly, there are hundreds of millions of non-hybrid cars being driven in the US. I don't see your logic in what you're saying because having a whole country switch to Hybrid cars within a short period of time just won't happen. Fuel prices in your country are an immediate problem, one that needs to be dealt with now, no in 20-30 years.

Just a week ago I was sitting at a bus station, I got there right when a bus left, but I waited 35 minutes for the other one to come, and guess what, the driver said it was full!! Public services are worse than walking.

EDIT: Bush has connections with oil companies. Do you think he wants to stop the gas addiction?

Then your situation falls under the category of needing to pay for gasoline. If America is not willing to have an effective transportation system, they can expect to have people consuming large quantities of fuel.

This is just downtown Phoenix, I'm sure the public transt in other places are better.

MasterOfTheVortex, I agree with most of your post except for this part.

Either you are joking around or totally ignorant of modern cars.

Seriously, 5 MPG? This is 2006. The average MPG of US cars is around 30 MPG, with lots of cars over 40 MPG.

But, we shouldn't complain when you guys pay $8.50 per gallon. I pay average $3 a gallon where I live and I'm glad that I'm not paying the outrageous prices you are paying.

To sum it up, the large oil corporations are gouging the world. Supply and demand.
