Honda accord recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has publicized a Honda Accord recall that will affect nearly 600,000 mid-size vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. The recall is over a damaged power steering hose that has the potential of leading to an engine fire. The recall affects Accords from the model years 2003 through 2007, but only those with V8 engines. More information at: Honda accord recall.

It's a car often hitting the headlines for recall. 500 thousand in 2010 for faulty airbags.

For every defect there is a cost for recall vs paid off.

Lets say that there is a problem in every car of that year and model. they could do a recall but that is very very very expensive. they could also do a what we like to call, keep you mouth shut and i'll give you cash. if we expected X number of people to actually have this problem and get hurt by it etc, would it be cheaper to just pay them with a few thousand dollars to stay quiet.
