You are the lead programmer of a large robotics company that has just been given the green light to create an artificial intelligent robot.
You have all the technology to put a human robot that can look, speak, and act human. The question of the night is: Would you allow your AI to have human emotions, or would you rather have it calculative machine?

You can build a machine, that can have none of the 7 deadly sins, and will be basically a robot in how they interact. But, then how would you feel about having a robot that cannot feel loyalty?

It would be very interesting and complex to code emotions into a robot. It would have to be capable of rewriting its source code on the fly in order to take in new information and form new "neurological" pathways.

I would say that it would be a good idea to create one robot with such a chip and observe it (the insights into human emotion and behavior could be invaluable); however, I think it would be unwise to create them en masse, for fear of what they might become if they get together in large numbers.

Although perhaps it would be necessary to code emotion in order to prevent "logical genocide" (I'm thinking of the movie I, Robot). The robots might come to some logical conclusion which, unless tempered by emotion, could lead to potentially devastating results.

In other words, I have no idea whether I would choose to implement this emotion chip or not, because the results would be too unpredictable either way.

Spoiler for Nietszche Quote:

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

But if you create a robot with emotions and keep it locked up to be observed, would it not feel like an animal? And also, it knows that when you are done with it, it shall be destroyed. I would assume that robots would not like the feeling of death.

But then, if they have emotions they would hopefully know that killing is wrong. The more compassionate type robots may end trying to save human beings. Remember, that in I, robot the main computer did not have emotions, but the one that helped the humans did.

Sooo... no lust? (you can see where I was going with this ,no?)

Then I wouldn't want anything to do with robotics if my robot was not this guy

And this would be the point at which the robot rebellion of movie fame would come to pass. Sentient beings opens up a whole new level of problems regarding what is and what isn't acceptable treatment. Some would argue on behalf of all sentient beings, be it organic, electronic, or mechanical. Others would only argue for organic. Ideally, the robots wouldn't argue for just electronic/mechanical...
