What are your thoughts on the NDAA bill?

I don't know much about the bill other than the army's ability to "detain american citizens indefinitely", but it seems the general consensus is bad.

If Obama passes this bill he can be 100% sure I won't vote for him in the coming election (I will be 18

D).

He just did sign it today after Congress revised it because of his veto last week. This article does a good job of explaining it.

It quotes Obama as saying:

Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation.”

The article quotes him a few more times and he makes it clear that his administration will be using their greatest discretion as to not infringe on the rights of U.S. citizens and continue to improve the bill's meaning and implications.

Well ****; I guess I will be voting for one of the republicans next election. I think Ron Paul would do the job justice; the other guys are absolute **** IMHO

Really this doesn't change anything. American citizens will still get a trial. Just say "habeus corpus" and they'll probably let you go. It's not breaking traditions or values at all, in fact many presidents have used indefinite detention during their times in office. Abraham Lincoln used it during the Civil War, Wilson during WWI, and Roosevelt (to a lesser degree I believe) in WWII. It's not like its new for a president to allow this, so it doesn't break tradition or values. What it does do is go against the Constitution and your right to habeus corpus and a quick trial. So long as Americans know their rights, it doesn't matter what this bill says. Also, fire, it's odd you would blame this on the president when the fact is this bill came out of Congress, passed by both chambers with at least 50% voting in favor of the bill. I suggest that if you are going to blame the president, that you also blame your Congressmen if they supported the bill and not vote for them in the next election as well.

I love how the government is just infringing on some of our basic rights lately, with this bill, kicking out the Occupy protesters, and trying to push the Protect IP act and SOPA through congress...

Anyhow, I'm glad Obama had enough sense in him to at least make congress revise the bill some because the original bill was crap. He's still the top candidate in my book though, even though I can't vote.

I'd have to agree with that although I wont have to do so since both of the senators from my state were part of the 14 senators who voted against the bill.

Great idea, let the military hold anyone "indefinetly" We will see how some of these court rulings go about this.
