We are worm food.

If there IS anything on the other side of death I'll happily admit I was wrong. The problem is that we have to die to find out, and I'm in no hurry to discover the answer.

I'm not going to rule it out..but at the same time i don't rule out space aliens flying around in space.

I'm not going to expect anything either, unless proven otherwise I'll go with the nothing happens and if anything does, I'll consider it a bonus. ;D

I used to believe in reincarnation when I was younger, now I find the idea of that rather disturbing. Being reborn over and over and never 'getting out' as it were. Although that does sound terribly emo. Now I'm not sure what I believe, but I'd like to believe when I die it's all over.

If you become non existant then it's not "all over" because you won't even be conscious, so you're not going to get that feeling. It's not the same as thinking about going to bed when you're at school.

... I am aware of that. You really don't need to state the obvious. It's pretty obvious to anybody that if you died and just became non existent you wouldn't be aware of it, or anything. I was just saying I thought that was preferable to coming back as something else, reincarnation.

I don't know what would happen. I know that your memories and emotions would certainly not go with you, since they are related to your brain and body - memories are just pathways in the brain, and emotions are just hormones being released in the brain. We are essentially just a big bunch of chemicals.

The only thing that could possibly 'live on' is your consciousness, and there are various philosophical theories regarding this. But I doubt them.

In all honesty I think everything just ends. No consciousness, no afterlife, nothing. Consciousness is probably just a side-effect of certain properties of our brain and body.

So how could anything be worse than not being there, you must have a very miserable life.

I think that reincarnation would be a tiring thing. You're reborn several times until you finally achieve a state of perfection, then you can rest. I don't think I'd really enjoy life if I knew that it was never over until I became absolutely perfect and self-sacrificing. It'd make me not really enjoy life.

Wasn't the idea that you're reborn, unaware of your previous life?

Well, in Hinduism it's believed that your soul is what remembers the life journey-- not the mind.
