12 million illegal immigrants would be granted citizenship if they did the following.

-Came forward and said they are in this country illegal
-Pay a $5000 fine
-Return to there native country and apply for a visa

Republicans and democrats win on both sides, Before this will be enforced a large wall will be built between California and Texas. More border security will be used across borders. And a Tamper proof work ID card will be issued. The bill has passed and i hope Pres. Bush will sign it, this will put money into the government and protect our borders.

The first thing they need to do is be able to track these illegals. I think it was a fair decision.

There has to be a means for illegal immigrants to pay taxes in the same way as American citizens. There has to be a penalty for entering a country illegally. What do you prefer? Do you prefer that these people get separated from their families instead?

Taxes: just another form of money source. I'm sorry, I may not fully understand this. I just don't like how money is 'everything', and how it is SO important. Forgive me if I am being a newb.

No, no, it's fine. I was just wanting to make sure I knew completely what you meant. The thing is that, yes, the US does need money from these immigrants. It's because they do not pay income tax, one of the largest sources of tax that is collected in the US. When you have 12 million illegal immigrants not paying income taxes in your country, this adds to an already large deficit. So, yes, this is about money. But it's about money that America needs right now since it's drowning in debt from the Iraq war.

I suggest that America drastically cut back on its spending in Iraq by pulling out troops soon, as well as taxing those who don't pay income tax-- illegal immigrants. Their presence is one of the reasons why everyday Americans have to pay more in taxes.

I am about to say something kinda off topic but the U.S can not simply pull out of Iraq. As much as i wish they could, they can't.

hm, an effective solution to illegal immigration that'll make the gov't a large sum of money... It probably wasn't bush who came up with this plan.

America has pulled out of several conflicts when things got too rough or they have made concessions. Vietnam and the Korean War, for example. The fact is, when a president throws money at a war that has no timetable, it makes the future of America uncertain.

Actually, if you are a legal immigrant applying for citizenship, the regular fee is around $1000. This has been standard practice for the past few decades. People are willing to pay that much.
