most popular free mmorpg for the second year? What do you guys out there think about this. I think its kinda silly but who knows...this may have been b/c of rshd. What's your opinion on this matter? ANd why do you think this is?
Lego Pi3
on a second note, what do you think about the jagex store? If I bought anything, it would be a mousepad. I would never wear an rs hoodie

Well, WoW has been losing people (maybe of the economy, can't afford $15) and I've noticed that most of the people that left WoW came to Runescape, same with Guild Wars, costs quite a bit of money to buy the disc, so people also can't afford it. And I can't think of many people who play things like Maplestory (buy a shirt for a character is $10 ,which is insanely retarded. Oh, and the monsters look like little bunnies ^_^

In my oppinion the bad economy in the USA won't really change a thing with people who have WoW subscriptions. The USA saves the LEAST per person than ANY first world country in the world and this won't change anytime soon. Habits take time to change and I doubt that this would have anything to do with WoW and Guild Wars loosing subscribers.

It's plausible that runescape is the most popular MMORPG in the world, it doesn't require any downloads or disks. Younger people who can't afford a membership for these games themselves or their parents won't let them buy it will turn to runescape for a gaming experience.

Hmm the jagex store? I didn't even know there was a jagex store until now. Hah I just went there.. wow I would not buy any of that stuff.
I'd get a shirt that said something like "Runescape nerd and proud" XD
Hah, I probably wouldn't, but it's a nice thought.

No, you only need a great computer to play.

They really did lose alot of members when they removed the old (I mean the Old one which had the old Sprites) detail.
But since we're not discussing HD levels I won't dwell on that topic.

Popular? If you count the inactive 90% of total accounts then yes.

Most of RuneScape's accounts are inactive and do not play any more. At least half of that 90% are bots and only a fraction of the remaining 10% play daily.

The Guinness World Records is probably counting total accounts, not active accounts vs total accounts. If they counted active accounts then RuneScape would probably drop down a few places. Though I don't play WoW, GW, or any other of those great games, I'd be willing to bet that one of them have more active users than RuneScape does.

Are Xbox games considered online games? If so, then one of them probably has more active players than RuneScape does, though there probably aren't any RPG xbox games, are there?

Honestly: I don't see how RuneScape can truly be the most popular.

All I'll say about the store is this: There are some things which Jagex needs to leave alone.

Well the difference between WoW, GW, and Xbox games that makes them unable to win this award thing is that they're not free.

WoW would not be able to win the top spot as the most played free game- unless there are many people who actively play trial accounts and keep recreating them when it comes to an end.

I wouldn't see why people would leave over changing hairstyles and such. XD -> There are currently 127886 people playing!
More than half are F2P.

Most of the other free games aren't that great, and you can generally play anywhere that has a computer with an Internet connection. You can suck out of a lot of play time in F2P, so that's probably why.

I'm not going to be buying anything from the Jagex Store. I just don't think it's the type of thing you'd want to show off, general thought is if you use the Internet for more than homework, you have no life. Although I'd like to know how much time people who think that spend on MSN/Facebook or similar talking to friends compared to time with friends IRL. Chances are at least enough to consider them a nerd too if they know what "RuneScape" is.

Ahh, yea. My mistake.

I suppose that's how they won the award, can't see much of a reason otherwise.

More than hair styles, Warren.

I could name a few Free internet games, however currently they're not Multi-player.

You're right, there aren't many free multi-player games worth playing. About the only one I can think of is Flyff.

Seems like RuneScape's Competition is pretty slim, which is probably why they won this award.

Question: Who had the record before RuneScape got it?

In terms of free play, I might say MapleStory. I'm not sure it had a record before runescape did, it debuted 2003 in South Korea, and has had 81 million users play it since. Granted I don't know what the gameplay's like and whether or not it could attract bots, but I'm sure it's a big competitor.

Runescape f2p can keep you busy for a while, and it's meant to be easy to play. Advertising I haven't seen much of .. usually I'd hear about it from someone in real life instead of seeing an ad for it, but with Jagex at E3, the whole graphical update - yeah, the hype probably attracted people as well.

As for merchandise I rarely visit the Jagex store, but a mousepad sounds good .. can't think of much else I'd buy.

I would only wear a Runescape hoodie if I wanted to get beat up and ruin any chances of ever attracting a mate.

I'm a girl and if I saw a guy at my school wearing a Runescape hoodie I'd go up and talk to him! I don't know many people at my school that play runescape, so that'd be kind of cool.

Haha, well I'm not ashamed I play Runescape. If people would judge me on something like playing Runescape, they already do because of my rainbow mohawk. XD
