Noob:

Being called a noob can be annoying. You may have a bad game of Castle Wars, for example, and find that a player follows you around afterwards, calling you a 'noob'. As irritating as this may be to you, please do not report it unless there is something more serious that you'd like us to take a look at! If the player is really bothering you, add them to your Ignore List - that way, you'll have no more trouble from them.

Filtered language **** ***:

It may be that you have wandered RuneScape and seen someone activate the in-game chat filter. The filter removes inappropriate words, so you do not need to send us a report. If a person is annoying you by continuously using the filter, we would advise you to use your Ignore List. To sum up: don't report for starred-out language only, as the filter has done its job. Of course, if there is something other than starred-out language that you are concerned about, please send us a report about that player.

Does this new explantion from Jagex mean we can swear every once and a while and not get in trouble for it? And the noob part I thought was funny, because all the noobs report me for calling them a noob, so that is their explantion. :D

It makes it seem like, as long as it's filtered, it's ok. But if it's ok, why did they filter it? I'm pretty sure people get reported for filtered language and can get muted/banned .. but the explination says otherwise :?

Reminds me .. I saw someone report a person for calling them a nub. Hah, we can call people noobs whenever we want. +1 xD

Ummm, unless I misunderstand you guys,we can swear as much as we want as long as we don't spell around the filter. You can't really call a bunch of stars offensive.
Reporting for being called a noob is stupid and pointless, and so is reporting for censored things I guess.Doing that can actually be reported right back for misuse of customer support.

They explained about some of what they said to report about. Those who fish in Catherby usua;;y can see it being done using the 'q', 'w', and the 'p' on consecutive lines makes a picture that doesn't get filtered. Also mis-spellings that tell you exactly which word they are actually trying to use.
The only 'bad' word I'd use is 'w*rk'
The occasional expletive over something going wrong (one friend accidentally high alched her whip ! Now that would have me saying 'worty dirds' !) but to actually be saying stuff for shock value is going to bite them on their fanny !

I don't really get this..You could always swear without getting reported..
This explanation for filtered language isn't a new thing, you were never allowed to report starred out things..

Yeah, you could say '**** you' in game as much as you wanted, but it would ALWAYS show up as '**** you', which is un-reportable. However, going around the filters is what gets you in trouble.

It was always like that. I don't know why people ever thought you weren't allowed to swear with censored words, or they could get extra reports for pmod if they reported censored words. How do you even know they weren't using shift + 8? l0l

I guess that is what it means, but I'm not going to chance it because of some of the stupidest things I have been reported for.

(password scamming)

So, ya. I just know someone will report me anyways.

They don't encourage it. That's why its filtered, but I say just don't swear massively. Especially where noobs are nearby that don't know anything about the swearing rules.

its a well known fact that reporting someone saying stared out words is a waste of time. If the swear around the filter then its a different thing. I thought 95% of players knew this.

The offensive language rule only applies to offensive language which isn't censored, so technically, yes you can - as long as it's starred.

Well, the rules have always been this way. So yeah, this does mean that if you use a swear word that's blocked by the censor, it cannot be reported. The only time it should be reported is if the player is trying to type their way around the censor.
