Is RuneScape ever about luck?

I was just curious to know how many of us think about the layout of the RuneScape game. Most of the time (when active) I always seem to find somebody telling me a story of how they managed to miraculously sweep away a high level in the duel arena, then get a unthinkable amount of moneys worth in items.

This of course has changed due to changes to the duel arena. But then there's the "lucky" monster drop others manage to get.

But then there is the subject about survival. I think that survival plays a huge role in RuneScape especially in PvP matches. From my own experience I always seemed to get "unlucky" in the wilderness. But away from the combat base of luck there are quests we may have that drain a huge amount of HP. My example here is when I was questing in the kharidian desert i had no more food and no more water, NO WHERE NEAR the exit and 1 HP left. Luckily I had a charged glory amulet whith 1 charge left. I guess we know how the story ends there.

So is RuneScape based on luck? Please share your views.

totally luck for egzample me i am unlucky person i must admit i mean me 99 def works like piece of crap(a lvl 70 didint missed a single hit on me so i guess it turned of

well lest take monster drop u might never get anything worthfull in 1 single item but u might get alot of other materials wich comes out to cost more then that single item yet u are "unlucky" since u dotn get d chain etc. In me opinion pvp is based on luck dramatically, yet i wish i wasnt lucky in randoms coz these things goes on nerves totally :evil:

Luck and probability are huge aspects of this game. The whole damage and drop system (as well as other parts of the game like farming deaths) is based on probability. You could get a dragon chain on your first kalphite queen kill but then again you might get your first on your 3000th kill or maybe you'll never get that dragon chain.

Although the damage system is based on probability things like staking, castle wars and pking take more than just luck, you also need a good internet connection (not always but most of the time).
For example: to pick up the flag in castle wars you need a certain amount of experience to know when and where to click but also you need a good internet connection to click it before the other people going for it.
In staking you need experience to know when to attack the other person and you need a good internet connection to instantly see when to click. If you're a mere milisecond faster than the other person you can get that last hit in before they can hit you back and kill you. The final thing in staking is luck, you could have the finest internet in the world but still you get crappy hits.

Since whoever has the highest skill isn't guarenteed to win, there has to be some luck involved. I always see probability when cutting magics: I have 99 wc and a dragon axe, so I have such out of such a chance of getting logs. Next thing I know some person with a rune axe and 75 wc takes a log and cuts down the entire tree. Now what are the chances of that?

It's very similar to 'Russian Roulette' whatever comes up, be it drop, hits, or randoms, it all depends on the computer program or if your name comes up . . .

Yes I have seen braggarts *bash*, I have been lucky at times, and sometimes my ducks do end up all in a row . . . *quack*

Runescape is 75% skills and 25% luck.
I say this because things like getting rare drops are impossible if you aren't high enough to kill it. Luck and random numbers also play a role.
So ya runescape is a lot of skilling and luck.

i must disagree its more 50% to 50%, skills is nothing if ur unlucky u might have all cmb 99s, killing kq for months and u might never get chain and someone whit far lover stats can come and get chain drop in his first queen killed, but i dont say that luck is all that matter no its not but it plays huge role in runescape and real world if we take overall luck .

i voted no its what you make it.

If you have the stats and spend the time at GWD or BH etc etc then its what you make of it.

I voted yes. Some of it isnt luck though, most is though. Like one time I was fighting a rat, lvl 1, and im lvl 70 (57 att) and i missed it 3 times in a row and it hit me (56 def) 3 times a 1-2-1 i had a rune scimmy and full rune armor on and ammy of power...unlucky or wat

I especially hate how noobs can get rich by popping balloons in the party room. I saw a lvl 7 noob get a guthix skirt, and 2.1 mil in cash at it once. that makes me really mad!!!

tbh depends what your doing killing monster for good drop is actually luck...
but trying to bh and killing ppl is pure skills...
so depend what type of thing u do best

Of course ther is luck. when you go to hit a monster and you hit a 1 thats bad luck. when you hit a 30 or above than you have good luck. it is all based on a roll of a die just llike d&d. please correct me if i am wrong. :wink:

Luck - or rather the laws of probability - are central to the game where drops are concerned, and to some degree with combat. Other than that the game is down to the player making the best of strategies to defeat monsters or to level fast/ easiest for skills.

Oh, and the time you spend online.
