1 million members!

Well, Im sure many of you have seen the recent update on the website.

Runescape has totalled 1million members as of the 4th of May.
This is quite a feat for JaGEx, as Runescape is an online experience, and is not as popular as other games like World of Warcraft or GuildWars.
And the free-to-play aspect of it.
Becoming a member on Runescape only costs around £2.50 or $5 whereas World of Warcraft costs over £15.00 or $30.

Do you think this is the reason?

I don't know. What I do know is that there are only 60 member worlds.
So only 12% of the members can play at exactly the same time.

What I also know now is that they earn 5m a month. Maybe we can demand some better updates now?

South they still have to pay for servers and staff, plus it won't make the updates any better.

Yes, but I don't think it costs more than $5M a month to pay for servers.

Active. Because to appear on the highscores with fletching you need to be lvl 33.

Nice $5M dollars a month. Of course alot of it ends up going to pay for servers, staff, etc...

I very seriously doubt that even 1/10 of all members auto. More than half would be over 500,000. If this were the case, all of the member worlds would be overloaded.

Their making more then 5m a month. Pay by phone is like 10 dollars.

It problably only costs about 500k USD a month to run all the servers, and the staff aren't all that much.

As for autoers, there is probably less then 100k member autoers.

It's a pretty big achievement to have 1M members. with the cheapness and the different ways to pay your subscription, i would think that it is part of the reason, although i think that if they made the price higher....say $10 month, then there would only be the slightest decrease in players, if any at all. sure, people would get pretty annoyed at this, but i dont think that they would stop paying their monthly runescape bill.

I'd like to see some Minneapolis servers.

I think they should be able to accommodate for at least 15-20% of the members at once, plus playing in near full worlds can be a little annoying.
