I'm not sure if Jagex is even aware of this... But I'm not too interested in treasure trails so it doesn't really matter to me.

They're not exactly the same. If my memory is right those old ones were stackable, but the image didn't change (just like any runes). However these are stackable, and the image will change if you get more (just like money).
