It's not a dumb question at all. Experiments are in the dungeon graveyard of Fenkenstrain's castle.

You have to have started Creature of Fenkenstrain. There's a grave marker east of his building that you can push to get into the Experiment cave.

^ you need to search the 2 bookcases in his castle and use the items together to get a pendant first :)

experiments are probly best, when you get 60 def go to axes
