Those are the words that meant Player Owned Houses and Construction was coming out. Now that it has beenout for a few days it’s quite obvious that those are to do with construction. How can you make a chair without construction? Anyone who knew what clockwork was could figure it out as well. Teleport tablets, that kinda threw me off, but the tablets are made with clay in your study. So it’s here, after many years of planning so here is my sort of review of them.

First problem, is that you must pay someone to convert your logs to planks. This is the middle ages here, I am sure that we could have found a way to make a plank out of a log, heck we can make a canoe that DOES NOT SINK with a standard hatchet. With this it enabled the rich, to simply buy their levels. Sure there’s nothing wrong with this but another skill where you have to practically buy your levels to raise it quickly, is not what the players wanted; we have Herblore and Farming for that.

When you get to your house and decide to start building rooms, there is not enough flexibility. You have to have a room with the default amount of doors. In my view, you should be able to pick between 1 and 4 doors on a room. I wasted probably about 200k when my room was not aligned properly.

Another thing that annoys me is that when you build something you do not get any materials back. If I take my desk apart, I will get some wood, some screws, some nails etc.. But when you take something apart on runescape, nothing comes back! This is what annoys me most.

Finally there were a few bugs, some more improvements could have been made and it may have been a good idea to hold it back until the end of June.

Oh and one more little thing:

Ok, so we got that and the farming skill but they said we can grow herbs and plants in the grounds our own house. Along with player owned shops. Maybe they forgot this update?

I am currently level 50 construction, it is a good skill despite what I mentioned. Perhaps one day I will hold an open house.

I agree with you completely. They obviously wanted Construction to be a large money-drain on the Runescape economy. Even if you still had to pay for the plank conversion, why do we have to walk so far away. But I agree, we should be able to fletch planks.

As for getting items back when you remove something, they would have to tweak that in some way to make it work. Otherwise, build GET XP, remove, build GET XP, repeat. With the same materials. That would not work.

I enjoy Carpentry, I won't level it very high for right now, there's no real benefit to it other than fun, but I've had enough for now. I'm interested in how they will further devlop POH's.

i couldent agree more, its an expensive skill and almost all skills can make profit on goods (even firemaking)

i just see this as jagex's way of letting f2p make money of oaks
i enjoy construction its fast and easy buy as few say on runescape official forums this is a skill for the rich"

^^^ and dan reach level 50 construction and the demon butler fetches planks for you

Ok...You made a lot of really good points Shane. 8)

Jagex did and didn't put enough thought into this skill. They put enought thought in to make it a skill but not a comparision to reality. The thing that really confuses is me how you need screws ONLY for the items made from regular planks. This bends reality because how the hell are the things held together that are Oak, Teak, and Mahogony? Does the sap from the tree's inside the planks do it. I have no clue if somebody could clear this up for me I will greatly appreciate it. Also since when do our character on Runescape know exactly how to put together things without any type of learning experience. They just know know how to put together a chair without errors all the way upto their own dungeon that does not CAVE IN?

These are just a few example on how Jagex did not thing it through on this skill. They made it so you could have fun with the skill only! You dont learn from your building mistakes like a real carpenter would in Real Life. My dad is a contracter when he started his job he barely knew how to use Dry Wall. Now he is the Boss of his group on the job. He still has a boss tho.

Great points you have made there Shane, and I agree with you 100%.
It costs more than enough money just to convert wood to planks,
and like tjbartz said Jagex didn't put enough thought into this skill..
I mean the J mods can just add everything they want to their house without even testing it.
And Tjbartz you can fit wooden things together without any screws or bolts by making the peices fit one another so no screws or bolts are needed. :P

Ok we all play the game. The game is supposed to be in Medieval times and it is slowly progressing into the future. But do you think everyone in Runescape is that smart to put together pieces of wood? And there has to be a system where you learn from your failures...

NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE!

Well I'll agree with all those points completely, but you gotta realize it's all just a game. ;)

Well since Construction making cash became much easier and prices on everything else simply dropped.
