Here is my official (yet pointless) guide to killing dustdevils.
WARNING, IF YOU HAVE NOT STARTED DESERT TREASURE, THEN YOU CANNOT GET INTO THE DUNGEON. YOU MUST ASLO PROGRESS TO THE PART WHERE YOU CAN LOOK INTO MIRRORS TO SEE THE LOCATION OF THE DIAMONDS.
What to bring: ring of wealth, desert or slave robes, 200 gp, 1 waterskin, a knife, and form of teleportation or u can walk out, 5-10 lobster FACEMASK IS A MUST, DO NOT TAKE IT OFF EVER, YOU WILL DIE IF YOU DO!!!!!
weapons: if u are a ranger, bring best dragon hide u can getas many arrows u can get, best bow u can get, crystal not recommended. Warrior: unless you are of very high def with very very good armour, bring a halberd no armour is needed with one. Mage: Bring mystic robes, water spells are recommended since dustdevils are weak to them, but all spells will work.
Alright, now, once at the shantay chest, get your required items, and a pass. Go thru the gate, get on the magic carpet and ride to the southern desert town, now walk around the hil unti l you see a dungeon, put on your face mask, and go down, go to where u can see the following on your mini-map.
Equip whatever gear you use, the green dot on the map is where to stand if u are using ranged, and you can attack either one, if they do not get caught up and attack you, run to the red dot and hopefully they will stop.
For melee, if u are going to close range melee, prayer helps, but is ineffecient, you can attack any dust devil you see anywhere, but if you use a halberd, drop something (doesn't matter, it won't disappear) where the red dot is, run near the dustdevil closest to you, and attack it, then run and pick up whatever you dropped, this helps so you never lose your spot. once the devil is killed, drop the item where the red dot is again, and attack another devil, repeat the process as many times as u kill them.
Magic is the easiest way to kill dust devils, use water based magic, i suggest wave or blast, and stand on the green dot on the map provided. attack the dust devil on the other side of the lava pond, and it will not be able to attack back.
I CANNOT STRESS HOW MUCH U NEED TO NEVER TAKE OFF YOUE MASK, TAKE IT OFF, AND YOU WILL BE DEAD IN LESS THAN 10 SECONDS.

REVISION: the main reason it's bad to kill them head on, dust devils may have only average defence, they're offence is astounding, they atatck faster than a dagger, and they hit 7, 8, and 9's alot, if u get hit once, then brace urself for about 4 more hits about the same dmg.
THE SWAG! well, dustdevils are best known for they're ability to drp dragon chainmail, but they drop that about 1/40,000 times, as well as dropping these, they also drop rune daggers very often, in one night i can get about 5 of them. earth battle staves are dropped rarely, but high alch fairly well, devils drop rune arrows by the dozen (litterally!) and fire runes 150 each time, and finally, soul runes either bye 5's, or pairs.
