While I wasn't saying that it was my opinion that I think you should "mature out of games after you turn 18", but, although those are the words of a 15/14/or16-year-old from the friends chat, I think there are a lot of parents of that opinion XD. Seems that way at least, but I suppose they're more likely to be vocal if they oppose it, not sure why they would randomly just be like, "WELL I THINK ITS OKAY TO ENJOY VIDEO GAMES NO MATTER YOUR AGE" when video games are brought up in a conversation. Whereas butting in, "I DON'T APPROVE!" isn't as random.

I did't really have the time to read everyone's posts, so excuse me if this is a little out of context.

It is not weird at all that anyone of any age play's this game. I honestly think that the only people who have a problem with you being a little more "seasoned" are the younger crowd themselves. I'm not claiming to be old by any stretch and am in fact only in high school at the moment. The one thing I enjoy about playing with people who have more irresponsibility's, is they are more.... responsible. I think that the percent of older players who flame, spam, troll, and break rules is almost 0. After all its just someone controlling pixels, so wouldn't it be better if that person was .... where am i going with this.....

Older players are the best! A few of my friends are older people in rl, you have to realize these people usually are way nicer than the teenage players. They dont spam up your screens with annoying comments they dont act like an immature brats.
Older people also like to help new comers and there friends........... its not all a race to making money or training skills, they would rather be doing activities with others. Go older players, down with pre-teens.

Games, whether MMORPGs, social facebook ones, slot machines or card games, are designed for everyone to play.

It's irrelevant what the target audience is. People older or younger than that will play it anyway. Take a look at Grand Theft Auto. I certainly didn't wait 'til i was 18 to play that game.
Texas Hold'em as well. I learned to play that when I was 7. Yet there's players in the WSOP over 70 years of age. I doubt they'd have a problem with any 21 year old playing in the main event? (a 7 year old, yes, probably, down to legal reasons though)

Truth be told the only reason age has ever been 'an issue' is because the prepubescent don't like the idea that their mum could play the game. XD

Roll on Stellar Dawn with the age restriction :D

I've been waiting. I'm one of the five story contest winners so I know I'm in the beta but that contest ended more than a year ago. That's a long time to wait for a prize. This is a topic unto itself.

As for the age issue, I'm glad to see that most people are open minded and accepting of older players. The occasional nub that doesn't like it will have to learn to deal with it. I'm not going anywhere.

When I was 14 back in rs classic, my best friend in rs was a 46 year old mother, one of the most interesting people I met in my agility days was a 36 year old ex junkie... I have at least 10 people age 50+ on my friend list, me being age 20 myself. I doubt that people who are mature enough to have a real conversation with another person is gonna think it's "weird" that old people play games such as RuneScape. The people who judge people by their age are mostly too immature to be worth having added in the first place.

You don't even know how much I would pay for a screen like that.
The only reason why I think people hate on older players is because they are jelly that they have a job and can buy whatever they want and do whatever they want .

Some of the best friends i have met through runescape are on the older side. One in particular, i met through her sons, who are around the same age as me. And to be honest, she is the most respectable person i have met on runescape too. She is extremely good mannered, she always says hi to me when i log in and says goodnight when she goes to bed. She is the kind of person that i would trust anything to, even though i have never met her IRL. I enjoy playing with older people because they are much more mature about the game, rather then "Trololol my 138+ team will crash your KQ".

And who would i be to tell you what you can and can't play? Do what you gotta do!

Greetings, and thanks, for creating this topic.

My step-sons introduced me to RS, two years before I married their mom, whom also has an RS account, now. She made an account in order to get in synch with her eldest boys, and they loved her the more for showing up in the 'Scape. =D>
These teenage boys could not have foreseen that they would truly esteem us for RS play. Nor could we know that they would run away to other pasttimes, immediately after we joined their game. It was more fun for them to explain their game excitement when we were noobs...but then we learned the game, and how to be equal or better than the boys, and their fun evaporated. [-X
I should learn that it is better to be forever learning from the young, and not to be their equal. After all, time's end is closer for me than for them, so I ought to encourage their aptitude to be know-it-alls. Eh? 8)

I experienced a very similar situation, Dead Again. It was my nephews who were playing RS before me. I found it intriguing and at the same time I did have concerns about their online interactions with strangers, out of love for them. So, in order to fully understand the game I created an account... hence the name "Uncle Dano". They were thrilled that I played along with them, but as is the attention span of some youth, they did venture off onto new things (i.e., defected to WoW.... oh the travesty!!! #-o ). In the end, they still found it wonderful that I got into RS, even though they may have come to the realization that an older player can quite easily learn a complex game and pwn them royally...

Just goes to show you that there is much more behind the people who play RS than just a group of teens playing a game. Frankly, I have no intention of "outgrowing" RS, as there is still so much that I have not even tried yet. This game is so vast and complex that I could never get bored and I don't think that I will ever reach a level where I think this game is too easy. For an older player to admit that clearly demonstrates that this game is the best there is! I never would have imagined a game like this, even in my wildest dreams :o

I, like you am also an "older player" and see nothing wrong with it. I've been playing games all my life. My generation grew up when gaming was in it's infancy, so it just seems natural to me. I think for older players it's even more necessary to play games, as an escape from your daily life. Some of my co-workers prefer to go to a bar and get drunk after a long stressful day at work. I'd rather go home and sit down and unwind with a game.

I happen to know there are grandparents and retiree's playing runescape as well. My wife is in a clan called "old goats", which has plenty of players who "should be" in a rocking chair, lol.

I'm sure if I'm in a nursing home someday and my brain can still function, I'll be sitting there with a controller in hand, playing "Call of Duty version 32", or if runescape is still around, going for my 99 in "sailing", lol.

The people who think it's weird for older people to be playing a game are the same ones who will call kids younger than them a baby and tease them about it being their bed time. I think it's harder for some younger people who are still in school to realize that age doesn't matter as much as they think it does. Throughout their whole life they have been encouraged to find friends their own age, and have been kept in school with people their own age. For some of these kids, an older person on RuneScape may be the first older non-authority figure person they meet. Many kids will not realize that they can be friends with people much older than them till they get into the workplace because of how society has taught them that it is weird to be friends with an older person they meet on the street.

I wouldn't take offense at people thinking it's weird, they just don't know any better yet.

i know where your coming from, though, there is also the other side, when i tell people that i'm 14(15 on the 22nd of this month) :3, i get people saying that i'm too young to play this game, and that i don't qualify to have a say in any arguments because i know nothing because i am only a teenager, usually i am 100 times more intelligent on the subject than then those people telling me that i'm too young :3
