It's unfortunate that these sort of things happen but once again there is nothing we can do about it. We can't control what people report and don't report. We have to have confidence that Jagex will not simply press a mute/ban button on any report that comes in. We have to hope that they are looked over fairly and only acted upon if something truly goes wrong.

This serves as another warning to not joke about anything that's rule breaking material as Jagex can't be 100% sure if it is a joke or not. We also know that since the recent addition of the player safety stronghold they are cracking down on anything that could put a play in danger as they are technically liable.

Having another chat channel to "joke" wouldn't solve anything, it would only become a brewing ground for these sort of things to happen. Once again joking around is not a good idea.

Members are free to do whatever they want with their own chat channel, there's nothing we can do about that. I'm just going to warn you that the same sort of thing would happen there eventually, so be careful.

I want everyone to read the first post of this topic, particularly what's in bold red.

Just remember be careful and remember the Jagex rules, we can't say that they don't apply in clan chat since the chat channel is on RS itself.

PS: I would be careful about talking about giving your account to "the unlucky person who got reported for joking around"...

The offence was in the RSBANDB clan chat channel in RuneScape, not on the forums. If it was against the forum rules and posted on the forums, there would no way for him to be punished on RuneScape and would of been punished on RSBANDB.

Jagex can be asked to leave clan chat moderating to the clan chat owners, but they don't trust another party with it. So, it can't really be asked to them to remove the ban in an exchange to be warned on this fansite.

Unfortunately, it can only be encouraged to report any rule breaking to an events crew memeber or global moderator+, and not to Jagex. It cannot be forced upon anyone. There will always be people who feel it necessary to report to Jagex, who unfortunately seems to go out of their ways to interpret what was said in anyway possible and then pick the worst one, just to keep their game clean, and safe for young children (who legally aren't even allowed to be playing on a non quick-chat restricted account).

All clan chat moderators are asked that they do not report and instead deal with it by warning or kicking the offender. The best way to stop all of this without limiting the clan chat to a cautious, boring level, is to make the TeamSpeak server active. And to remember that Jagex is one of the most strict (and in the view of many, largely unnecessary) gaming company on their rules.

You may notice how strong my views are on the quality of their service, but I believe they stand correctly. It is spoken from the service I have been provided with and many others have been provided with as well. However, my views don't necessarily reflect those of anyone else.

your not even involved in this at all shane and mike can't control who gets reported on runescape and who doesn't this whole thing has nothing to do with you. Justice can't be brought and it never will because if the person were to say that he or she did it he or she would be shunned.

It's always unfortunate when someone gets reported in the CC, but just remember that clan chats aren't magical tickets to break the rules. [-X For all we know, Jagex may have some sort of auto-detect for certain rules.

And no, I'm not saying this because I have reported anyone in the BnB chat. :P

No, I wouldn't. In fact, I break tons of rules in private chats with my closest friends. But anyone can be in a clan chat. You never know who might hold a grudge against you or something.

I wouldn't report a friend, regardless of whether they're breaking a rule or not.

It would be nice if we had a more lenient set of rules in clan chat since we're entering it by choice. But until that happens, there's no way of knowing who's listening, so assuming that no one is going to report a flippant remark is a foolish risk. Save the questionable stuff for IM where Jagex can't touch you and don't take chances in clan chat.
