I don't see why Jagex thought it would be necessary to make it a combat raising skill. I haven't used it once yet for anything combat related and I'm 61 summoning so far. Terrorbirds for replenishing run energy at the Ape Atoll agility course is probably what I use it most for.

Good idea, never thought of using Terrorbirds for agility training. And I agree with you on making this a combat skill, the familiars don't hit high or frequent anyways.

At lower levels, I wondered why Summoning added to combat. I still somewhat do, but as I've gained levels I've found more and more uses for Summoning, in relation to Combat. You can have your Bunyip heal you (not really combat, I know) or you could choose to have a familiar fight along side you. Nothing is "great" until you get higher summoning in which you can start summoning Titans. Seems those are the best thing to help you out, and looking at what 90+ has to offer it is easy to see why it adds to combat.

Even so, I'd still rather see Slayer impact combat. I suppose the only reason it doesn't is because you can't use slayer equipment/skills while in PVP combat. Summoning, however, is a skill that can help greatly while in combat, supposing you're high enough and you use it correctly.

It's alright, but like others have stated, it shouldn't have truly been a 'combat' skill if you can only use it in less than half of RS. The actual training of the skill doesn't even involve combat, except that you're forced to kill monsters to get the charms.

I also think the whole idea of pouches was lame. Pouches should have been optional as a way to save inventory space. One should have been able to simply have the ingredients in their inventory, and the current tab for the summoned monster would be the like the spellbook tab (with a list of all of them) until they summoned one. Then it would change to how you know it now.

Anyway, It's not too difficult to train. Grind charms off one of the suggestions for good charm droppers listed in quick chat, buy the ingredients + shards, make the pouches, have that ogre give you a good chunk of your shards back, repeat.

Spoiler for Nietszche Quote:

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

yea i agree it's a cool skill. It's fun to use the familiars, but it stinks they dont give exp. Making the pouches themselves are really expensive and a little too much like rune crafting for me.
