If you look at every skill, every skill has it's own money maker:
Fighting
Attack: Kill monsters
Strength: Kill monsters

Pray: Kill monsters
Mage: Kill monsters/Alch
Skills
Agility: go through shortuts
to monsters
Herb: Make potions and sell them - huge moneymaker
Thieving: Steal stuff and sell it back
RuneCraft: Make runes and sell them
Cradting: Make stuff and sell it
Fletching: Fletch and alch
Mining: Sell ores/make bars
Smithing: Make bars and sell them or make stuff and sell it
Fishing: Sell fish
Cooking: Cook/sell fish
Firemaking: Nothing but does not waste money
Woodcutting: Sell logs
Slayer: Gives all the more reason to kill monsters and get their drops
Farming: Grower ranarrs
Construction:

All construction does is waste money.
1. There is no way to get any supplies without spending money so the skill is practically useless
2. All construction is, as Creepy said, show off our pixels.
"Woo come to my mansion! I'm freaking rich because I can afford all this useless crap! Woops! Now i'm poor!"
Same thing happened to me. First day construction came out, all I wanted to do was make houses. After I sold my rune kite and obby cape for supplies, I came to realize:
"What does this house have for me that will help me?"
NOTHING.
