I had the same feelings about Squeal when it came out. Why should people have access to something like gambling so easily? This is more so a problem with the buyable spins for me than the 2 or 3 you get per day. I don't have much of an issue with those since everyone gets them.

But as for Solomon's store, it's no different than buying an item off the TF2 store or purchasing DLC off of the Xbox marketplace. So it's not real world trading because the items you get there really aren't that game changing, the vast majority are cosmetic. It's a good business model and fortunately most of the items in there are focused towards fitting in with the RS game. I've even taken advantage of one of the non-free bank boosters.

I'm glad though that they're supporting the game like this rather than raising prices on existing members. The micro-transaction model can be taken further, to fund games entirely like Star Trek Online. I think Jagex has the right balance overall.

I just wish they'd be a little more clear with their motives.

My issue with Solomon's store is that supporting it encourages Jagex to invest more time in creating items for that rather than the main game. It also gets rid of that "oh hey that's a cool item where did you get that" aspect from the game, which was really charming.

They have a team of about 3 people out of the entire jagex company that work on Solomon items. It's not like Solomon hindering the game content. If anything, it is better because of theiney it brings in for the game.

Yes but supporting it is still supporting the expansion of pay real world money for in game item programs. On top of that, those are 3 people that could be working on other parts of the game and all that cool armor could have been implemented as content available ingame rather than only available to those willing to hand over cash.

I don't have a problem with the squeal wheel and Solomon's store. What I take issue with are all of these half-ass updates like Wilderness Warbands, Demon Flashmobs, Goblin Warbands, Sinkholes... (need I go on?). It takes about a week for each one to become dead content and it seems pointless that Jagex is wasting time and money on them.

That's why we got RSBANDBUpdate! to fill you guys all in! :D

But in all seriousness they did say they were going to cut back the non-game update posting, doesn't seem like it's happened. My feelings for Jagex right now are a bit turbulent, not sure how I feel about them.

Also that would be an interesting thing to look at, which pieces of content released in the last 18 months are still active daily.
