Request a full transaction history from the billing team. Maybe someone bought 20 000 spins on the SoF with a burner mobile phone number. It's very easy to shortchange Jagex when paying by SMS. Shhhh...

Did you subscribe to other Jagex games?

That's happened before actually. I'm not too sure of what our circumstances are, but if I recall correctly the last person I saw with that kind of dilemma got hacked; the hacker committed some sort of fraud which left Jagex out of pocket - and then the coins balance became negative in order for the account owner to rectify the debt.

I don't recall if a nice solution was ever found though.

Really odd. Get in touch with billing. I've found they actually do answer back fairly quickly.

The money makers strike again. Does it really surprise you though?
Having played rs more or less seriously since 2001, I can only agree that the game has changed, and sadly not for the better in the last few years. I even ended up more or less quitting recently, after three solid years of playing. I only decided to come back to the game to finish some old goals, but I wont expect too much from the game or Jagex in the future. Quitting is a thought much closer to me than I thought it ever would be.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure every game changes over the course of 10 years, that's just natural progression. The problem is that Jagex is money-hungry now, but everyone is because of the economy. Not much you can do.

1- If you pay with a credit card and the funds aren't there [on the card to pay the membership] for a short period of time jagex will add 'negative' credit. Most people only have 1 month of negative credit. [This also can apply to using your phone to pay.]

2- BAR

If you're anything like Mod Mark in the latest runescape video and wondering what the heck the BAR is - [the live Botany bay q&a fo reference], this is the Banned Account Reinstatement.

Players would pay 'approximately' $60 - or the cost of 1 year of membership, to buy back their accounts from minor offenses. These could be offensive names, advertising websites, disruotive behavior, spamming, etc. [but NOT macroing or rwt.]

The BAR was closed after 90% of users granted a 'second chance' went right back to cheating anyway. The system lasted approximately 8 months?

So maybe you had an offense and Jagex decided to offer you an 'appeal' to have it removed for a fee, and maybe it glitched out?
