depends on whos point of veiw you mean, yours or your characters. If its you character, about the size of a medium sized state (indiana, michigan, ohio, etc.), to you..about as big as a large bedroom.

It obviously has room for expansion, as mentioned previously. You can tell by simply looking at the world map; the black areas repressent what will one day be all new members area. Once the black areas run out, Jagex can make more if they please. It's infinite.

Interesting question!

Lets see...

* A herb patch is 2x2 movement squares

* On the downloadable jagex map a herb patch is 6 pixels wide.

* Therefore the scale of the map is 3 pixels per square.

* Assume each square is 1 metre (reasonable given the size of the characters and walking times)

* So the map scale is 3 pixels per metre. (Since RS is a UK game and Andrew is >30 years old, actually more likely to be 1 pixel per foot).

* The total area of the map excluding black areas (but including seas) is 3076 x 2556 pixels.

* So RS would be only about 1 square kilometre in the real world.

Wow! Did I go wrong somewhere?

my physics teacher, wich is very smart, the smartest person i've ever met, he says that there are theories that the universe one day will come together again.
This is called 'the big crunch' wich has the reversed effect of 'the big bang'.

To get back to the mater at hand, I think the world of Gielinor is pretty small compared to other MMORPG's.
but i think that's logical cause it is made in Java.
I do wonder what the world of Gielinor will be like at 5 years.
Atleast if Runescape will still exist then.

It's survived 6 years, and it is still getting more and more popular. I think it'll last 5 more years, lol.

Gielinor is the name of the world.
But it's more known as Runescape.
It's understandable that you don't know that cause you're F2P.

I'm sure you could use some advanced math formula to figure out the area, but thats beyond me. Runescape is made on computer software and such so it is easy for them to make the world bigger. They can keep making it bigger until they run out of hard drive space.

agreed - and as hard dirves are becomming larger and growing more storage then rs2 is so i think that it will be around untill it becomes 2 'uncool' and we have a drop off of members

but that doesn't look like it's goin to happen anytime soon :P
