This is a 'problem' which I've always had on my laptop. My touchpad works, somewhat, but the page scrolling feature which exists on pretty much every touchpad available (by moving your finger down the right side of the touchpad) has never worked.
I open up the Alienware Command Center, click to go to 'AlienTouch' in order to change things around and see why the virtual scrolling doesn't work, click on virtual scrolling and BAM. This appears.
Spoiler for error message:

Going through my driver DVDs atm but it's come down to uninstalling drivers and I'd like to know, before I do something like that, is the problem purely a 'broken' driver? Or is it something I can fix without uninstalling my touchpad driver (because I'm assuming my USB connected mouse won't work afterwards?)
Help would be greatly appreciated, it's not so much an issue that prevent me from using my laptop, I just want everything to be working.

Found a forum thread that seems to have some useful suggestions. I've had driver files go corrupt or have been the wrong version so I wouldn't be surprised if reinstalling your touchpad driver fixed the problem. Assuming your mouse has its own driver, messing with your touchpad driver shouldn't affect the mouse.
