First off: long time no see! Decided to play RuneScape again, after 238 days of not doing so. When I went to the client on the website, I was treated to this loveliness:

I'm pretty sure my Java's updated (poked around Troubleshooting a little and took care of it) and I know my computer can run RuneScape. When I go to the lobby's options menu and re-run auto setup, nothing changes. I also downloaded the client, to no avail. Just in case it will help, though:

Browser: Firefox
Operating System: Windows XP Media Center Edition
Amount of RAM: 3GB
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz

Software mode or opengl/directx?

Try the other mode.

That was a deceptively easy fix. Lock please, problem solved.

Well no, there could still be a larger issue. Does it come back if you swap to the other mode again?

Also what mode were you using?

It was on OpenGL, switched to Software and it was fine. If I go back to OpenGL the problem comes back.

edit: Alrighty, something new I've noticed. For no apparent reason, the game interface goes completely black. It hasn't happened often (maybe twice in a few hours.) The only thing visible is the search bar above the client. I can only get back to the game by refreshing the page and logging in again. May or may not be related to the other issues.

Try updating your graphics drivers maybe? Or what about trying Directx mode?

I actually had the same problem and resolved it the same way as Shane described, switching from OpenGL to DirectX. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the black screen issue :o. What were you doing when you got the black screen? Any intensive background processes running? I commonly whitescreen in Chrome when an extension like Chromed Bird pops up over the page. Good luck :).

I don't think it's anything with my graphics drivers, since I can run other resource-intensive games without problems. If I switch to DirectX it works the same as Software. Can't confirm or deny anything about the black screen since it happens so infrequently, I'll edit this post if I see it again. When it's happened before, I was running through non-crowded areas, without anything particularly intensive running in the background.
