Hey yall,
So I had friend tell me there's a way to hook up my xbox to my laptop and my xbox will be able to use the internet since my laptop is connected to a wireless signal.
I've been searching google for a guide or something and I can't find one. All the guide I found are running vista or earlier and I'm running Windows 7.

Can anyone help? Has anyone hooked up their xbox 360 to the internet using their laptop?

I would like to do this for many reasons but one good reason is that I want to play an xbox game but I need to connect to the internet so my xbox 360 can download the patch.

Thanks

If you're using a wireless connection from your laptop, then you need to buy a Wireless Network Adapter for $100, or if you are just using your local wireless connection in your house, you just need to connect the ethernet cable to the router/modem/gateway.

Using an Ethernet cord to link the two.

I can help you do this. I did it a while back but I think I should still be able to help you.

Essentially you have to hook up your xbox and laptop with an ethernet cord, then create a network bridge between the 2. It might be kinda hard to explain on here but if you got on msn I could help you out. My msn is "nikeballa435@yahoo.com"

I am usually on it while on my computer and will be glad to help you.

I don't have glasses, and I was just trying to help out.

Just because your laptop has a wireless connection to it doesn't mean that you can just plug in the ethernet cord to the laptop's ethernet slot and it'll work on Xbox Live. It needs to be connected directly into an internet source.

On windows 7, you can just select your two network devices and then right click on one of them and go bridge connections.

Make sure your xbox 360 is off when you do this, and that you are connected to the internet with your wireless. Then you can turn on your xbox and configure the network settings in it's control panel.

IP Address: Give it an IP address that would be on your network. For example, if your computer is 192.168.1.10, you could give your xbox the IP of something a bit higher that wont be assigned by DHCP like 192.168.1.150
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: Your Routers IP (likely 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)

DNS Server: Enter your ISPs DNS servers here or OpenDNS servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)

After you set that up, in your router's control panel, you can forward port 88 and 3074 to the IP address you gave your xbox in order to give it an open NAT so you have no problems with hosting games.

The only problem I've encountered with this is that you have to make sure that you are always connected to your wireless internet before turning on your xbox or else it will think your xbox is an internet connection and you'll likely have to restart your computer to get it to start working again.

I always wondered what 'Bridge Connections' did. Seems rather obvious now.. Thanks for that info Mike.

Thanks Mike for the more in depth answer. That was what I was trying to say with less words. Ohh and make sure your computer does not hibernate during the process. If it loses the internet connection then you will also lose it on the xbox.

Yea it is really simple and easy, post any troubles with the screenshot Mike took.
