I think he wants to know how to use the program itself.

If that's what you want to know I recommend checking out http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/. There are tons of tutorials and what not that will get you going on Gimp.

You can also ask people here specific questions on how to do things, but broad questions like "how do I work it" won't get you much help.

there is no way i can figure out most of that program, you can't even draw a straight line on it...... how lame....

it wont let me type something onto the art eather......

Both of those statements are false, your just not having patience with it.

To draw a straight line hold control while you drag your mouse with the pencil/paintbrush tool selected.

To create text use the text editor tool (Big A symbol).

Yet again I recommend checking out http://gimptalk.com. You will find tons of helpful information there, including the obvious.

Getting frustrated and complaining will get you no where, you need to stick with it and have patience, just like I did, the numerous other people on this site did (alternatively on Photoshop for some), and nearly everyone else who uses the program.

Ok, I spent half an hour reading 2 guides, and when I use the typing thing, it wont put what I type on the artwork(although most of it can't be considered art) and the little control using the tool doesn't work ether, it just makes the color white........

Keep working at it. What version of gimp are you using though? I can assist you better if I knew that.

Well I mixed up the controls for straight lines, click and make a dot, then hold shift to make a straight line.

i still can't type on the pictures, and it won't let me upload an image from gimp now(first ive ever tried)

Make sure for the text that you change the color to one that will be visible on your background.

Also save it as .png. .xcf is a gimp file so you can edit your image later, .png is the oneyou will upload.

I recommend keeping a copy of each for your pictures.

i didn't know what .xcf was so I changed it to .jpg, but it wouldn't save unless it was .xcf, because I tried every picture thing and it wouldn't save unless it was in .xcf..........

.xcf is the file type for gimp. like .psd is photoshops
