What a great idea. XD

I especially liked this part:

Quote:
Security staff brought in to control the traffic and deal with rowdy customers had to calm down one resident who waited 10 minutes to get out of his driveway.

rotfl, imagine waking up to that outside.

Pretty dumb idea.

Almost everyone who got the free petrol won't give a stuff about the game. Even the guy they quoted as saying he would. They don't care why they got it, they just care they got free petrol.

Well when you consider it's a publicity stunt and the idea was simply to get the game noticed and out there...here it is, on the BBC website for hundreds of thousands to view and hear about..it worked pretty well even if those guys that got the petrol didn't actually buy the game.

I'd imagine the majority of the targeted audience for the game aren't going to be browsing through the BBC news site. Incidentally I was at a family party last night and my aunt and cousins were talking about this because they'd seen it on the news. I asked, and not one of them could actually name the game even though they'd heard about the petrol give away and disruption it caused. It's got them publicity, sure. But I don't think it stands a chance of selling more games.

Perhaps but looking at the charts:

http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp? ... x_test.jsp&ct=110015

It's sitting happily at the top, beating out a lot of big hitters which is surprising as it's a rather average game at best. o.0 Might be pure coincidence, either way I'm sure EA made their money back on game sales so it's a success to them.
