Temple of Ikov

A mysterious stranger called Lucien asks you to go on a mission deep under the Temple of Ikov in central Kandarin.

He wants you to retrieve an artifact known as the Staff of Armadyl. Towards the end of the quest you are presented with a choice on how to complete the quest.

Requirements: Level 40 Ranged, Level 40 Thieving.
Recommended Skills: A high Ranged level (50+), 37+ Prayer for Protect from Magic.
Items Needed: Yew, Magic or Dark Bow, any light source (a candle can be bought from the shop in Catherby, nearby), 20 Limpwurt Roots, Knife or a weapon with slash attack style for obtaining Boots of Lightness.
NPCs:
Difficulty: Medium.
Length: Medium.
Reward: 1 quest point, 10500 Ranged XP, 8000 Fletching XP.

Start Point: Speak to Lucien in the Flying Horse Inn, north of King Lathas' castle in East Ardougne (west of the river).

  1. Speak with Lucien (see Start Point), and he will tell you about how he requires the Staff of Armadyl. Agree to retrieve the staff for him, and he will give you a Pendant of Lucien to aid you.

  2. Take a knife (or a weapon with a slash attack, but usually these weigh more and therefore are not recommended), a light source, as few other pieces of equipment as possible (you will not yet require any armour or weapons), and wear your Pendant of Lucien. You will need to be as close to weighing 0kg as possible. Make your way to the Temple of Ikov, located south east of the Ranging Guild. Climb down the ladder to enter.

    Image

  3. Go as far west as you can of the cave you arrive in and down the stairs after the turn in the path.

    Image

Slash the web in the corner of the room, and take the Boots of Lightness. Wear them.

    Image

  4. Return upstairs and enter the room filled with Skeletons - you must be wearing your Pendant of Lucien to do this. Find the broken bridge and cross it, but before doing so, ensure that your weight is below 0kg. If it is even 0kg or above, you will take 20 damage from falling into the lava below, and will not be able to cross!

    Image

  5. After successfully crossing the bridge, go through the door and pick up the lever on the ground.

    Image

Go back to the room you are first in when you enter the cave, and you should notice a lever bracket on the wall. Use the lever you picked up with the bracket and then pull it.

    Image

  6. Now the easy part is down, you'll need to return to a bank and collect some new equipment. You'll need to defeat Lesarkus the Fire Warrior, only level 84, whom is very easy to take care of with the Protect from Magic prayer. If you do not have the appropraite prayer level then you'll need to use food, and probably make two runs (as the limpwurt roots you require will take up 20 spaces).
Take out food, armour (dragonhide works well, since it is light, but you will mostly need to defend against level 61 Ice Spiders; if you have a low defence level, use the best melee armour you can), a bow (yew, magic or dark), and a prayer potion if you need it. If you have 52 summoning and inventory space left, you could use a Spirit Terrorbird and its scrolls for energy restoration. If you have inventory space and high (70+) defence/hitpoints levels, to save time, take 20 limpwurt roots, but otherwise you will be able to bank and make a second run. It is also possible to get a friend to carry the limpwurt roots for you, but this is a hassle to setup and would probably only take longer. If you do this, don't forget to bring money with you to trade them (due to the trade restrictions).

  7. Return to the Temple and go through the gates to the south east. Follow the path until you come across some closed chests. Open and search every chest, and eventually you'll find some Ice Arrows in one. Continue looting the chests until you have as many as you think you'll need - you'll need enough Ice Arrows to defeat Lesarkus the Fire Warrior, so the number you should collect will be dependent on your Ranged level. 30 arrows should be sufficient for a Ranged level higher than 70, while up to 50 arrows would be recommended for levels 50-70. For those under 50, you should collect as many as possible to avoid failure.

    Image

  8. After finally collecting all of your arrows (it can take some time, especially when your energy is depleted), teleport out of the snowy area (or run back the way you came) and return to a bank, unless you still have your 20 limpwurt roots with you, and enough prayer and supplies left to defeat Lesarkus.

If your Ranged level is above 50, and you can use the Protect from Magic prayer, you should be able to defeat Lesarkus without difficulty and without using any prayer potions.

If your Ranged level is below 50, and you can use the Protect from Magic prayer, you will need to kill him as quickly as possible, so it may be beneficial to bring a Ranging potion. He will stop the fight if you do not kill him quickly enough. Your prayer could run out, so bringing just one prayer potion is recommended.

If you cannot use the Protect from Magic prayer, wear armour with high magic resistance (dragonhide) and bring food. You will be able to return to the bank for limpwurt roots afterwards.

  9. Head back to the first room of the Temple of Ikov and go north until you get to a small room with a lever and a trapdoor. Search the lever for traps and then pull it. Follow the north west road until you reach a door. Go through the door and across the room to the next door. Open that door, and Lesarkus the Fire Warrior will jump out from nowhere and attack you! Defeat him by ranging him with the ice arrows you collected earlier.

  10. If you don't already have your 20 limpwurt roots, head back to a bank and withdraw them. Ensure you still have your Pendant of Lucien worn, your armour/weapon and food if required. Food should not be necessary unless your defence is very low. Return to where you fought Lesarkus and now go through the door you weren't able to before. Talk to Winelda, who will request that you pay her 20 limpwurt roots for you to be transported across the lava in your path. Accept this offer and she will do so.

    Image

  11. Go to the end of the tunnel and take the shiny key on the ground. You may need to pray to get past the Lesser Demons and Skeletons unharmed, which is fine as you will not be defending from anything else of significance.

    Image

  12. Go back up the tunnel to where the Skeletons were, and push through the wall that is push-throughable.

    Image

  13. At this point you may choose which side you take to complete the quest: do you want to help Lucien or the Guardians? Presently it does not matter which side you choose; there are no advantages or disadvantages gained by helping either side, except if you want to retreive the Pendant of Armadyl. If you sided with Lucien, you'll need to kill the guards until they drop one, as opposed to just handing you one if you talk to them.

  14. Side with Lucien: Take the Staff of Armadyl from the table in the next room and teleport out (you'll need to go to Edgeville or Varrock next), or go back through the wall, and out of the temple. If you don't teleport, the guardians may attack you and you'll have to fend them off.

    Image

Side with Armadyl: Unequip your Pendant of Lucien, and talk to one of the guardians.

    Image

By telling the guardians that you are retreiving the staff for Lucien, and that you need a bath, they will clean you and request that you side with them. You will be handed the Pendant of Armadyl, which will allow you to attack Lucien. Wear it, and teleport out (to Edgeville or Varrock), or climb the ladder and use the Shiny Key on the door.

If you choose to use the ladder, you will find yourself inside the shed in McGrubor's Wood. The door appears to be locked from the outside, somehow, so you need to use the Shiny Key to get out.

    Image

  15. Lucien's house is located west of the Grand Exchange and east of Edgeville, so the fastest way to get there is to teleport to Edgeville, cross the bridge towards the Grand Exchange and go south to reach it. Alternatively, you can teleport to Varrock, run through the Grand Exchange and use the agility shortcut in the north west corner, then go south.

    Image

    Image

  16. When you arrive, enter the house. You will have to either kill Lucien, or give him the Staff of Armadyl, depending on which side you have chosen. If you've chosen to kill him, he's an incredibly weak foe and you will have no trouble in doing so.

    Congratulations! Quest Complete.

--------------------------------

Step 14 is a bit sketchy as I couldn't remember exactly what one would do to get out of the temple, since I just teleported. If someone would be able to sharpen that up for me, that would be great.

Fairly interesting quest guide. Quite desciptive imo. I must say that it looks quite old, though. Graphic-wised.
I'm pretty sure that's how you get out of the Mcgrubber shed, but I'm rusty on the detail too.

Yeah, the temple obviously had not been updated for a long, long time, and unfortunately I got those screenshots before the graphics update (In March I think  ). I'll probably get around to going back there and updating what I can of them sometime, but it would be excellent if someone was able to do the quest in HD and send me screenshots from it. I'd happily cut them out and everything again myself. :)
