I suppose hot air balloons aren’t as weird as farming trolls.

Items Needed:

- 3 papyrus
- 1 sack of potatoes (10)
- 1 ball of wool
- 1 candle
- 1 yellow dye
- 1 red dye
- 1 bowl
- 8 empty sacks (get at gardening shops)
- 10 silk
- A growing willow tree or an available tree patch
- 1 tinderbox
- At least 10 normal logs or a hatchet

Teleports Used:

- 2 Falador teleport

If you don’t have the first 4 items:

- 1 Varrock for the potatoes and ball of wool
- 1 Ardougne for the papyrus
- 1 Falador to get back to Entrana.

Requirements:

- Level 36 crafting
- Level 30 farming
- Level 20 firemaking
- 20 quest points

Difficulty and length:

- Short and easy, but only if you have some patience.

Start Location:

- Entrana. Remember not to bring weapons and armor.

Go to Entrana. I don’t care how: Be it be the Port Sarim boat or the abyss to the law temple. Find a way to Entrana that suits yourself just fine. Once you’re on Entrana, head due northwest until you find Auguste.

Image

He’s going to tell you that, because he’s seasick, he wants to make a hot-air balloon to get off Entrana. He’ll show you a diagram.

Image

I’ll spare you the details. He asks you to get 3 sheets of papyrus (Ardougne general store or Tai Bwo Wannai Village), 1 ball of wool (Sheeps or imps), 1 full sack of potatoes (farm it?), and an unlit candle (Jack it from the church).

Image

Once you have everything he will teach you how to make an origami balloon. Use the wool on a papyrus, then the candle on that and you’ll have it. Show it to Auguste.

You’ll conduct 2 experiements. The first one involves you launching the balloon:

Image

Then it will catch fire and burn to the ground. Auguste isn’t worried a bit. After all, you're going to be riding something just like that a thousand feet in the air in a few minutes. Why should you be worried? Give him the sack of potatoes and the other 2 papyrus, and you’ll see the second experiment.

Image

A bunch of angry peasants will attack the balloon and it will burn to the ground. … no, I don’t get it either, but what you’re going to build should be far enough out of reach.

Now, he needs you to get a bunch more items. They include: yellow dye, red dye, 10 silk, clay bowl, 8 sandbags, and 12 willow branches (he’ll give you what’s needed for growing a willow tree [A willow sapling. Duh.]).

To get a sandbag, you need an empty sack and use it on sand. There’s one right there on Entrana.

Willow branches are gotten by using secateurs on a willow tree that you’re growing. You can only chop 6 branches, and then you’ll have to wait while they re-grow like a fruit tree. I suggest you get these branches first, and then last. The time it takes you to get the rest should be nearly long enough. Otherwise, chop the willow and train your woodcutting and firemaking on it. That’s what I did.

However you get everything else is up to you. You’re an adventurer, after all.

You’re going to have to make 2 trips to get all the supplies to Auguste, so have an extra Falador teleport ready.

First, give him the items minus the willow branches. He’ll get to work making the balloon and your willow tree should be ready for more branch cutting.

Once you have all 12 branches, use them on the basket behind Auguste.

I’ve yet to figure out how you made this with only 10 pieces of silk.

Ok, he’ll explain the diagnostics to you. To rise, you can either add a log to the fuel or drop a sandbag. You have limited of each, though, so use them wisely.

You also have 2 ropes. The red makes you plummet while the other lowers you less.

Avoid anything that you see. Even clouds are dangerous. And don’t bring more then 40 kg of junk with you.

And don’t worry. You can survive being 10 000 feet in the air if all goes wrong. Just aim for that fat Zamorakian monk that’s always there.

Just make sure you have a tinderbox and 10 normal logs handy. Auguste doesn’t.

When you’re ready, it’s time for lift-off!

It’s simply a minigame. You will stay still until you click a button (no time limit). You will always go forward 1 space, whether you relax (maintain height), rise, or lower.

Image

If things look grim, you can actually go through something diagonally. Just make sure that the balloon doesn’t physically appear on top of something with either of its 2 squares of space and you’ll be fine. If you crash somehow;

Image

Leave the crash site and make your way back to Entrana with another 10 logs.

Here's how to complete it:

Image

Image

Be careful not to actually crash into the target rock. Try to land it just above it.

Once you do land, however, talk to Auguste and receive your reward!

Image

You get exp, a new balloon flying service from Entrana (you supply your own logs), and the ability to make and color your own little origami balloons!

However, to gain access to these areas, you'll need to first go to Entrana, supply 10 of each type of log minus maple required for a trip (3 magic logs to the gnome stronghold). You also have to go through the mini-game again, but this time with harder levels. After you unlock them, you'll be able to fly for the price of only 1 log, a tinderbox, and the thankful ability to skip the mini-game.

It's very useful, actually. You can travel directly to the sawmill (literally 7 squares away!!!) from castle wars, dividing plank-making time in half if you use a duelling ring to get back! Just be sure you aren't carrying more then 40 kg and you have a bunch of willow logs to pay for the travel (1 per trip).

Oh yeah. You also get a nice bomber uniform.

Enjoy!
