168GB / 220 GB Available.. What the hell!

I barely have any programs on there and I also removed a bunch as well, such as the HP bloatware.

I just recently got the laptop and am wondering what the frig is using up all that space. It's a 250GB hard drive. Where did that 30GB of hard drive space go? I did some research and found something in regards to system restore using up a lot of space with vista.

It it is any concern, I'm using windows vista premium.

You're lucky though, I have a 114 GB HD with less than 1 GB free. I need and external hard drive... #-o

hard drive company's see 1 GB as 1000bits not 1024 bits no big deal when the hard drive is small but when it gets big you lose GBs so on a 1T drive you lose a lot of space so that might be part of your problem but it might be crap wear or vista being vista!!!!

Turn off System Restore to delete all restore points then turn it on and create "one" restore point for later.

Next go to the start menu and type in "disk cleanup" in the search at the bottom. Open that and run that program.

Yeah.. Our Vista PC has a 320GB hard drive and I was surprised at how much was being used up. Never bothered looking into it because there was still so much free space, but oh well.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to do that next time I'm on it.
