From what I know, AMD Athlon processors are more commonly found in and made for desktop computers, where as AMD Turion processors are more so found in laptops. I believe this is because the AMD Athlon processor uses more power / watts that a desktop can easily supply, but when it comes to laptops it would seem less likely to use a processor that uses more power / watts; the lower the better. That's exactly why AMD Turion processors are more so found in laptops because they require and consume less power / watts, which leads to longer battery life and less heat.

If you're going with a laptop I would definitely recommend the Turion, but if you're going with a desktop computer that has a good power supply, and for more power, I would recommend the Athlon.

I'm no tech expert and I don't know how correct this is, so don't take it for granted. Hope this helped answered your question, though.

Exactly what Jaden said - I didn't even know you could get an Athlon processor in a laptop. :P
If you're after a laptop, go for the Turion, but as always, a Core 2 Duo would be a better alternative. ;)

AMD processors used to be better. Once the Core 2 architecture came out, however, they have been dwarfed somewhat by the superiority of intel.

Get a laptop with a Core 2 Duo processor in. if you're using one for gaming, you want to try and get a T7X00 series processor, where the X is an odd number (ie T7300, 7500, 7700). They're slightly newer, on a 800MHz FSB.

A 160GB hard drive should be plenty, although it is possible to get 200GB or bigger. Make sure you get a computer with 2GB of RAM or more.

k thanks, what sort of graphics should i be looking at for laptop gaming?

EDIT: just had a quick look about and found that most core 2 duo's have a t5450 processor instead of a T7X00, they any good?

You should be looking at getting a laptop with an nVidia 8x00M GT, GTS or GTX, where x is 6 or more; or an ATi Mobility radeon HD 2600 or better.

My friend had an older Satellite that had pretty good features, but it was slow as hell (the thing could never seem to play DVDs correctly either). The processor on that laptop doesn't look too fast, but faster processors are more expensive. I think it'd be an alright computer. I was actually looking at some Lenovo laptops for you, but nothing really stood out.

That one looks ok, actually. It doesn't have the 8600+ graphics card, but you'll still be able to do some fair gaming with the 8400.

Of course, you could always pay some extra and get a Macbook. :D

gonna take it in to my local pc shop to see what theyd recommend and see what their quote is, then get what they say and check online and see if its cheaper.
