Post subject: How does this look?
PostPosted: July 23rd, 2006, 12:10 pm
I'm planning on upgrading my pc into something that could games like Guild Wars without being on the lowest settings. What i currently have is:

# Intel Pentium 4 515 Processor
# 2.93GHz, 533MHz FSB, 1MB Cache (Intel Celeron)
# 512MB DDR RAM
# Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD RW Drive
# 224MB Intel Extreme Graphics (Shared Graphics, Built Into the motherboard)

So i was thinking of maybe upgrading the memory two 1 Gig, buying two 512 MB Sticks
http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~64979~/512MB%20DDR400%20PC3200%20MEMORY.htm

Getting This Processor & motherboard
http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~110235~WW~/Gigabyte%20M51GM-S2G%20&%20AMD%20Athlon%2064%203200+%20Bundle.htm

And This Graphics Card
http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~110031~/Connect%203D%20Radeon%20X1600%20PRO%20512mb%20DDR%20PCI-E%20VGA%20%2B.htm

And that all comes to around £270/$500

I just wanted to know how the above looks, i know im on a small budget but was wondering how good that would be for gaming (not runescape, i mean full 3D amazing graphics games :P)

Also, is it better to have a better graphics card than processor?
And also i noticed the processor has a 512KB cache whereas my curreny PC has a 1MB one, is that important?

Thanks to anyone who answers this :D:D:D

I'd say that would already run it at a fairly average level.

You'd only really be spending $500 to make it look prettier..not really worth it IMO.

There again, what the hell do i know.

1Gig RAM = lovely. (But so is 2gig )

Only thing, get an NVidea GeForce video card. They're faster, but that one is value for money.

Nice :)

The new motherboard your looking at supports DDR2 800mhz high frequency memory, yet your memory your looking at is 400mhz pc3200.. make sure the memory is DDR2 800mhz k?

I would suggest getting it in a 1gb stick, unless your wanting to set up 2x512mb sticks at dual channel.

Mother board, processor, and graphics look all nice however. :)
