I tend to use Firefox, mainly because Opera users are always so rude (Not that Firefox users aren't, too), which leads me to believe the Opera community will be as bad as the users. I'd rather not be forced into using a browser that is as disgusting bloated as SeaMonkey (AKA Mozilla Suite), the layout on Opera, and the latest Micro$oft products, breaks all of the standards of program design (And browser design): The menu goes at the top, below goes the address bar and a search bar, and below that a few other toolbars followed by the website. Oh, and Firefox is getting closer to passing Acid2.

Before you moan at me for being a Firefox fanboy, I develop websites that work on all browsers (Including ones like Lynx), so I have Opera installed and use it to check my designs. Just because I dislike a program, and the pushiness of its users, it does not mean I ignore it.

I tend to use Epiphany, - it came with GNOME, why not? (Yes, I know it's Gecko) - Firefox or Safari.

I will hate Opera for as long as it sucks.

Better than IE? Yes. But making something better than IE is not hard.

Better than Opera? No.

limetang wrote:

Opera has passed it for a few months now, as has Safari and Konqueror.

limetang wrote:

So do I. I do have Firefox installed - 1.5 and 2b2, and I check any websites i make in all browsers.

I always do get annoyed, though, at IE's severe lack of standards compliance. IE7 is actually worse than IE6 on many ways. I always have to spend ages making it look good in IE, because the gif and png renderers in IE suck.

limetang wrote:

That seems to be implying that Gecko sucks. Firefox uses Gecko. Opera uses Presto, and Presto = Ownage.

limetang wrote:

Rude? The Opera forums are in fact very friendly and helpful. And what makes you say Opera users are rude?

And what difference does it make if Opera users are rude. I think the drummer from Metallica is an idiot, but it doesnt stop me listening to their music. Dont hate the creation because you hate the creator or the users.

limetang wrote:

The default layout on Opera is quite bad, although is completely customisable (more so than firefox, and a lot more so than IE).

limetang wrote:

Firefox shares that bloat. I have seen screenshots of it using 200+ MB of RAM, whereas the highest i have ever seen Opera use is about 115MB, and that was when I had RuneScape, the RSBandB Chat Java Applet, as well as a quicktime movie and two Flash movies open.

Justify that.

So actually it isn't crap. It is useful, it does what I need it to, and it is very simple to use, and easy to understand, which is great.

And it does have tabbed browsing, you'd know that if you downloaded the knew version, or knew somethng about it. So meh...

Yes, yes, yes, i know IE7 does have tabbed browsing.

But think about these points:

1. IE7 hasnt actually been released properly yet - its still a testing version.
2. Opera has had tabbed browsing for, oh... MORE THAN TEN YEARS. It has taken the Internet Explorer team long enough to implement it.

And no-one cares about a browser that takes 15 seconds to respond after you click 'stop'. So stuff IE7.

Have you ever come accross a site that didnt look quite right? An image in the wrong place, a gap of a few pixels where it didnt look like there should have been; two images that looked like they were supposed to be the same colour, but werent?

Thats because IE's rendering engine, Trident, is rubbish.

Seriously, Shaun, Im sure that everyone here, even if they dont agree on firefox or opera or whatever, will agree that Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Windows Internet Explorer, as they're calling it now, it rubbish, laggy, and a huge security risk.

Er... Master, right now I'm trying Opera, and it seems worse than Fire Fox :? Alot of images aren't loading, when the page first loads, it looks... weird, and it doesn't show what some links go to unless I copy the link location, where it shows it at the bottom with Fire Fox. Owned? (some stuff still hasn't loaded  - back to Fire Fox)

Anyway, people, stop talking about the browsers. This is for asking which browser you use, not discussing them. Make your own thread for that.

*yawn*

Thats because you havent set it up correctly... if you enable the status bar, it will show the link locations. I really dont know why they dont enable it by default, dont ask me.

I dont know why your images arent loading. Mine always do.

I love the sidebar (when maximised, move your mouse to the far left and click). And the widgets, imo, are better than firefox extensions. More FF extensions means a greater startup time, but with Opera widgets it makes no difference. And the widgets are immensely easy to make, too.

And the way you can drag and drop tabs to anywhere you like along the tab bar, and the way you can customise basically everything, and the way you can minimise to tray without an extension (Ctrl + H), and the way images dont go spazzy when resized to odd sizes, and the way you can change the zoom on a page, and the way you can view it at PDA size, the built-in IRC client, reload from cache, the F12 quick preferences...

For me, its a better browser. Some people may not need the many features it offers, although i use a lot of them.

I'll shut up now, though, as i have already said I use Opera.

FireFox has all that except the IRC client and the minimise to tray, but why not just press Alt + Tab to swap programs instead of minimising them?

Well Internet Explore messes up a LOT more, and it seems like I get more spyware with it.

No **** - FF, opera lags for me (AMD 3800+ x2, 768 RAM, 350GB HDs)

- now it stands to attention, but then the next page i need loaded it makes me wait like 19s before it loads ... unpredictable

Again back to FF for me

*Anyone know how to revert IE 7 beta back ?*
