I've played 5 years, but that's besides the point.
Back in classic, range was just a way to get higher skill total, because you hit much less and it wasn't as developed as it is now. Mage was ok because of the teles and stuff but there was not enough runes to go around, because Rune Crafting wasn't a skill.
