Here's a suggestion. It might just cut down on the spam and the double posts and the bumping of old topopics. I think that when people join the forums, for 24 hours only the rules will be accisible th them, and nothing else. That way, they just might read the rules instead of ignoring them and breaking them.

What do ya'll think?

Exactly what Robbie said.

If they don't want to read the rules, they just won't even if you beat them with a stick.

well, maybe if you displayed the rules the first time they sign in, so tht they will at least know that the rules exist

If people wanna post here then they should learn the rules before. Its not our fault if they don't.

Some people are totally new to posting on forums so they wouldn't know rules existed on a forum ;\\ This is an interesting topic, maybe put the link to the rules as their default sig untill they change it??

Na, we should make the rules more readable
I think we should just have the first screen be about where to post
Then, on a different page, we could show them the edit button and say no double posting
That would work better than a mile long page with rules
I had trouble reading that and mainly skimmed through it

Exactly, and the should read the rules before they join, or on the registration pages, the rules show up one of the pages.

If you have looked at the rules Mike wrote they are very organized and clear. They are written in lists, so there is no reason they are not organized.

Making new members not able to post for 24 hours would not be a good idea, it would drive members off probably, or a lot of them. If they want to not get in the trouble then they can take the 5 minutes it takes to read the rules, if they don't care about getting in trouble and possibly banned, then they can not read the rules and post at their own risk.

The rules are clearly displayed on every forum, if they slip up and get in trouble then they should look over the rules, if they don't it's there fault we can't force them to read the rules cause they will just leave.

I think maybe all newcomers should be blocked from posting new topics until they have 50 posts. And any post that hasnt had any replies for a month be automatically locked.

Im sure there's also a mod you can get for phpBB that blocks any post shorter than 20 words (or whatever you set it to, really) from being posted. That would stop pointless posts like the very-well-though-out "lol?" ive seen before.

And if that doesnt work....

Sorry but I don't think any of those suggestions would help the community. A lot of people join and make their topics for clans or questions ect. If they have to wait to get 20 posts before they can do that they will just go somewhere, which over time will make the community get less popular.
