Well u might of heard of the new virus that affects forum. and i think you got hit by one when you got that 600 users.
but from a post ive heard if you block the googlebot for a while until there is a new security update your forum , you will be ok.
here is the ip to ban:
66.249.65.43
trace it if you want and it should tell u its a googlebot

the virus CREATS 600 users (new accounts) on the site. im not sure now but i guess for everyone of them the webiste host gets a email. and when the virus creats 600 new accounts in about 1 second the webhost get 600 new emails in about 1 second. they think its a spam or something and they suspend the site.

it creates queries and then saves stuff on the server and then propagades using google bot and engine
