I think that if there will come chat mods it will be a new rank. And not automaticly given people power to mod if they belong to a rank now.

    dragon members(maybe)
    rune members(maybe)

Those particular ranks on the site do not necessarily hold any kind of power that 'commands respect' such as the Donors or Newspaper Staff. Events Crew's purpose is to organise and manage events, and Distinguished Users are those who don't cause trouble and would be able to hold a civilised controversial debate or discussion. I personally would have thought the Events Crew were likely to be clan chat moderators from the start, but even Events Crew members are not necessarily fit to have that responsibility (one ex-member springs to mind XD). Moderators really just need to be trustworthy.

On the other hand, I think the current EC lineup looks like a good selection of chat mods, it's just that there are only 3 of them who aren't already. :P

That extra 3 could actually be the only required addition though... there were a good handful of mods in the chat at various times when I was on today until later.

Well yes this is why i suggested it myself. Myself and Shane hand pick all events crew members, so them being responsible and mature enough to command and run events comes into consideration already.

There -is- only three people there at the moment but we'll be adding new people over the next couple of months. It's in a bit of a rebuild phase right now.

And then of course, any mods have to go through Mike so he checks them over as well. :P

Yeah, without getting to ahead of myself i think the EC would be the answer to this problem.

Yes, The EC taking care of it seems a preferable situation to people sucking up to try and get a rank, which is bound to happen. Why, completely escapes me.

I think the EC would be the only 'pre-made' group that should be given Modship in the chat. As has been said earlier, just because someone has a rank on this site doesn't mean they're actually a good trustworthy person IRL. Its easy to misjudge someone over the computer.

I think that VERY ACTIVE user in chat. Should have mod power in Clan Chat. A very active user is someone is about daily active, Looking if everyone's respecting each other and kick noobs who try to make the chat going bad ( Especially when players get Banned or Muted ) . So I think Mike or Shane should give the power to kick noobs to active users in the chat.

I completely agree about the EC. I think that their activeness + ability to handle responsibility would be ideal for modship.

thats the quote tree limit of 4 now :/ i can't quote ya :p

as far as chat mods would go, events crew sound like a great idea, but i only see the members of the ec on maybe 2 hours among all of them each day...

i'd have to say that people who play a fair amount of time per day should be watched for potential to mod the channel. the players i see on the most are lvl99blkmage, xolor, poisson gold, myself, and, well, i'd have to watch tomorrow to make an accurate list.

on that note, i'm on for a majority of the day just to talk in clan chat in between sentences/hw problems, etc, but i find myself to be too indecisive and immature to effectively manage anything :s <

I generally don't see those people on, the problem for moderating chats...isn't just about times when everyones on...it is mostly about times when less people are on. For a lot of you living in Britain or Europe...by the time I get on you're in bed. Although, because shane and mike live in Western Canada...I still usually have a mod on (when they are on anyway).

Doing it by active users alone isn't a good idea, we've made that error in the past.

The other concern I have, (granted picking moderators is not my job or my problem) is that if you pick individuals, individuals schedules change...they may quit Runescape for a while or have other more pressing things to do. The key to selecting a group like the EC or the Newspaper staff to be moderators for the clan chat channel, is that they have chosen to make a RSB&B a priority. That means that they are more obligated to continue their services to RSB&B in the event of something difficult coming up IRL. I know the fact that you have to make such a commitment is the reason I haven't ever applied or asked to be on Newspaper Staff, or EC or a chat mod. I just don't feel I can make the commitment to be on the site enough all the time. I'm a pretty good writer...but I just don't feel like I can put enough time or energy into Runescape to do a quality job...

So I would total agree with the EC getting the nod...I think that is the best course of action IMO.

Thanks for the input on the problem, everyone. Much appreciated. Mike and I have decided that the events crew will now have mod powers in the clan chat. If this doesn't work well then we'll have to take things to the next level. Although I don't see why it won't.

Shane
