We are sorry to say we have been hacked... :( The person took control of Pika's account and visibly messed up the forums and he was able to obtain a full backup of our forum database!

Anyone who used the same password on runescape as your forum password here (which you should not of) is in danger!

You should not use the same password anywhere!!!

I urge everyone to change their password on both here and runescape!!!

and make sure they are different!

Also this might be a time to remind everyone to keep their computer secure... some things that you should make sure you do/have:
  • Use windows update often, or better yet make sure automatic updates is turned on in your 'Control Panel'
  • Use a firewall, like the built in windows firewall in the 'Control Panel', or I would recommend the free version of zonealarm which can be found on this website
  • Have a virus scanner with live protection, and scan your computer weekly. Some good virus scanners are Norton Anti Virus, or there is a free version of AVG Anti-Virus that i would recommend
  • Scan for spyware/adware often with the free version of Ad-Aware, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, and Spybot Search & Destroy

Doing these things should keep you safe, on the internet. I recommend you also change your passwords often, and use a different password for everything.

You could write down your passwords in the back of a book or something, where you wont loose it, but don't store them on your computer!!!!

Thanks.

May I add somthing. http://www.soft1st.com/ offers password vault. It's an incripted file vault. here i'll quote

Quote:
Personal Vault is a utility that will help ensure that you never forget your important information. It can keep your passwords, URLs, e-mail addresses, and personal notes. All of your important information are protected by a single key. The vault database itself is compressed and encrypted to ensure security and portability. Personal Vault also includes password generation, password mask, and more.

You can save 5 on one account if you don't have the pro version. I have used it for a year and nothing has hacked into it at all. However use it if you want just making a suggestion..

Is this the thing they have that massive security warning about on RS?

Im safe... Im proud to say I use a different pass for everything I do and always make sure its very different on forums.

And no keyloggers's gonna get thru my antivirus/antispyware/firewall/everything-else-under-the-sun protection. :P

Ouch, this sucks. I'm glad I don't use the same password. But being that I have my 2 firewalls running and antivirus, I think I'm safe for now.

Ya it sucks when fansites get hacked like somebody else said. Some ***** bait hacked rsfaq twice. It hasent been up for about 2 months. Why dont hackers go get a life. Instead of hacking computer why dont they go find a cure for cancer. Go use there brain power somewhere else.
