In my old e-mail inbox, which was registered on many forums such as RuneHQ, Tip.it, Runevillage, RunescapeCommunity, etc. I have been getting numerous sam e-mails reportedly from Jagex staff. All of these e-mails either required me to enter my name & password somewhere, or asked me to download a program.

If you even get an e-mail like this, DO NOT RESPOND TO IT !!

WARNING: Scammers are getting more and more tricky. Now the link can even say http://www.runescape.com/login.php & the address bar can even show that. However, these are always redirected by some other website. If you ever experience this, go to File > Properties and it will show you the TRUE address of the page. If you ever have any confusion, type the address into your web browser yourself, instead of clicking on a link.

These are fake e-mails used by scammers who are trying to steal your Runescape account. Here are a few examples of fake e-mails I've seen:

Dear Valued Member,

Due to recent server backups, we will be purging the server of all
accounts that are not renewed by 1/1/05. This will drastically increase
server speed, and make room for more users to join. It is easy to renew
your account. All you have to do is enter your email, username, and
password below, and your account will be renewed. Please go to
[ Link Removed ] to renew it.

Thanks,
Andrew Gower

E-Z Switch Beta

E-Z Switch was created by the makers of SwiftSwitch, their latest
creation in making everyday RS tasks simple for you.

New features and improved features from SwiftSwitch in E-Z Switch Beta:
-Ability to record the area of your runescape game
-Ability to take screenshots (automatic cropping) which uploads itself
to automatic FTP server
-Ability to automatically upload itself to imageshack.us as well
-Ability to right click someone's character to get all their stats
from the main highscore list

Those new features are just 4 of the many new features contained in
E-Z Switch Beta and I am giving you the opportunity to be a part of
it.

When you install the E-Z Switch Installer and run it for the first
time it will prompt you for an authorization login, so this is what
you put in to start the beta:

Username: auth12030
Password: 1203010101

Note: Please do not share this auth code with anyone, as it is meant
for the selected beta members only. I will not know however if you do
share it with your friends, but I am trusting you.

Enough chit chat...

Get started on the beta now. You can download it from:

Many thanks,

All of these are fakes !! Even if the From header says "AndrewGower@Jagex.com" remember that RUNESCAPE WILL NEVER E-MAIL YOU FOR ANY REASON !!

Also, never ever ever for any reason enter your password on ANY site except for http://www.runescape.com

If you ever get a scam e-mail like this, never follow it's link or download anything. Jagex will NEVER send you e-mails.

If you get any fake e-mail you can report it to me or another mod/admin and we can add it to this list. Thanks :)

Here is another report of a fake e-mail. Thank you to Nfsgt1 for reporting this one :)

From: Jagex Security [support@jagex.com]
Subject: Subject server problems

Last night our login servers were hacked, they stole more than half of Runescape accounts information including passwords and contact information.

To get more information about this incident go to Security Information Center [ Link Removed ] !

Many thanks,
The Runescape Security Service Team.

Remember that scammers can forge the from address, so even if it says "support@jagex.com", that does not mean the e-mail necessarily came from there.

Remember that Jagex will NEVER e-mail you, and they will NEVER ask for your password or other information in any way.

Also, it is now somewhat possible to forge the link location. For example, even if a link you got in your e-mail sends you to a site where the address is "http://www.runescape.com" -- it may not be Runescape.com! To make sure of this, open a new browser window and type in the address manually.

Once again, Jagex will NEVER e-mail you, or send you a link, or ask for any of your information in any way.

Be safe, and happy gaming :)

The following fake e-mail was sent to several people from Rsbandb. Don't be fooled by this! The scammer wasn't even smart enough to sent it as a Blind Copy rofl...
