Post subject: granite maul and abyssal whip
PostPosted: April 1st, 2005, 11:59 am
I just got my membership back after quitting runescape for around 6 months. I pretty much figured everything out and got used to the updates, but theres still 2 things im wondering about. Why is the granite maul valued so much? Is it because it is more powerful than dragon items or is it just expensive or rare? same goes for the whip. Sry if i sound like a noob, but my curiosity gets the best of me .

whip hits fast and hard and if you use special you steal their running energy. maul very very strong but slow, special just hits harder :)

So .. whip is the best weapon? ha thatd be cool but extremely stupid to bring into the wildy and pk with it due to its high price. Whats the requirments for equiping whip and maul? Where do you get granite mauls from anyways? Thanks for the replies

For Maul, you need 50 Att and 50 Str I think.
Don't know about Whip though.

Maul when used correctly can be deadly, it is slow, almost as strong and accurate as whip, and you only get 2 specials per bar. (Crush Weapon)

Whip is STRONGER AND MORE ACCURATE than a D-Battleaxe and as fast as dagger, it hits with slash, you get 2 specials per bar, each of them hits hard, accurate, and drains 10% of Running Energy from its target to you, basically the ultimate weapon, 70 attack needed to wield.

True, but only in the +strength bonus. There is about 2 more for the halberd, making the whip the second strongest in game, for the +strength category.

Mual is worth so much because you need 70 slayer to kill the monster, also it's a rare drop from them. I say mual is p00n3g3 at Castle Wars  .

The required level for gargoyles, which drops mauls, is 75. And the halberd is the strongest weapon in terms of +strength bonus. The maul however has the better special, and is a lot faster and more accurate, by a long way.

Ok, I'm sick of this petty bickering.

There is no freaking "ultimate weapon"!

The only way it could even be near ultimate is if you're 99 - 99 - 99 and have some perfect set of armor bonus.

My Views

Granite Maul - Decent against Rangers, Mages, and anyone with low Defence or bad armor. High Strength is a requirement, otherwise, don't bother using it, you won't nail anyone for big numbers.

Governing Stat: Strength

Abyssal Whip - This is your Rune killer. Fast, accurate, deadly, not the best though. In no armor fights, the Granite Maul dominates if you can knock the numbers. I beat someone with an Abyssal Whip my level (86) with I used a Dragon Dagger (p) combo to start and did a triple hit with my Granite Maul (usually 0 18 18) and unless you're very high Attack and Strength, the whip isn't for you, it's for more experienced players with more stats.

Governing Stat: Attack

Those are just my views, they aren't what Jagex probably meant them for, but from everything I've seen and tested, that's what they use for.

On the subject of the "you're an idiot for bringing the Abyssal Whip into the wildy" statement, ever heard of Protect Item?
