what exactly is the purpose of blast furnace? is it faster exp, or just a way to use less coal?

It's really faster experience. My personal record is smelting 28 bars within 10 seconds :shock:
And you only need the half amount of coal

Erh not sure what you mean but the Blast Furnace is in the dwarven city.
