Well, I've finally maxed out my melee skills (A, S, D). Time to work on the oft neglected Ranging. I'm at 83 right now. Want to level as fast as I can, but with the following considerations.

1) I tend to do slayer assignments or kill monsters that have decent charm drops. I'm not interested in killing anything whose sole benefit is to level range.

2) I don't really want to "buy" the skill. In other words, I don't want to go overboard on cost of supplies (gc per exp.)

That said, I'll take any recommendations or advice you have on:

1) What armour to wear
2) What weapon to use
3) What amunition to use
4) What to kill
5) Any tricks you'd like to share.

Thanks in advance.

My options would be...

1)Armor:
Guthix/Sara/Zammy Coif, Black D-Hide Body & Legs, Snake Skin Boots, Ava's Accumulator.

Yes I know the Robin is better, but compair the stats of the coif then compair the price, same goes for Rangers boots

2)Weapon:
Darts, Knives, Crystal Bow, Mage Short Bow, Arrows, Rune Crossbow, Bolts, Cannon.

This all depends on the monster your fighting.

3)Ammo:
Steel - Addy, Cannon Balls

Again, depends on the monster.

4)What to kill:
Continue with Slayer tasks, Hey it only makes sense to "Double Dip" the xp.

Slayer tasks to Mage/Range/Hally
Dust Devils
Nechryals
Greater Demons
Hellhounds

Slayer tasks that are Cannonable
Daggannoths
Kalphites
Trolls
Black Demons
Dust Devils
Scabararites

use d hide sets for armor since it cant breake and make it lil cheaper also dont use d bow for training :) well basicly what you should use is crossbow and shortbow. Crossbow for tasks that reqs shield like metals or something like basilisks all other u should do whit bow for speed up incase you have barrows gloves use em isntead of wambs. I would suggest geting ranger boots still yet don't go for robin since coif has better def bonuses wich i think is more needed for slayer then +1 ranged bonus. Don't use capes ava's acumulator all the way saves time picking up arrows and some + bonus alongside. Archers ring is optional depends what you like to use in ring slot but its not a worthless thing since more ranged bonuses=more accuracy. Ammo hmm whit bows surely steel and over for crrowsbows well not a fan of them but i suggest to use addy bolts or something close to it. Crystal bow only good for tasks wich going to rebuy its recharge.
When you come to area firstly always look for good safe spot wich would let you train effectively but won't make pain to find/lure next target.

I came to love range via bone bolts. They're super cheap and well. . . I'm lvl 82 range now.
I hit 15s with them at 82 btw.
Oh and I use them on slayer assignments. . . a lot!

Bone bolts ftw!

1) What armour to wear
Obviously the best range bonus you can afford, for the most part you'll want to be using a crossbow (asusming you're doing on slayer like i did).

2) What weapon to use
^

3) What amunition to use
Depends on the task, i used mith and addy bolts. Stronger stuff on addy (or things with lots of hp, troll generals, nechs, kalphite, gargoyles etc) and mith for the weaker stuff/safe spottable stuff (trolls, hellhounds, pyrefiends, dust devils etc). If it's to oexpensive, stick to mith for the strong stuff, and bone bolts for the weak stuff.

4) What to kill
Slayer! All assignments are rangeable, though i'd skip the usual; metals etc.

5) Any tricks you'd like to share.
On none safe spottable tasks, tank range. Wear your regular outfit, but throw a dfs (>d sq) on your shield slot, veracs skirt on, and a neitiznot/d boots for really strong stuff. Really, with a crossbow you still have a healthy ranged bonus and really good defence. This is great for things like say, fire giants. You can safepot them obviously, but i for one hate competition. With that set up you kill them pretty fast, but have good enough defence bonuses to do well "melee style" ranging.

You can range EVERY SINGLE slayer task, i'm sure you can work out how but if you want me to suggest any ideas for certain tasks, send me a pm for the set up i would use.

armour should be full zammy with robin hood and ranger boots.

If you are rich go with dark bow or a rune c'bow with mith bolts for speed.

I would train on blue dragons if you want a lot of money or greaters demons for some great xp.

as for monsters just go with slayer like they said up there.

Tips and tricks....idk could kill ogres in that cage.
