For you lvl ild expect abit more, but thats just my opinion

Combat level has no big link with wealth, you should know that...(except for rune stuff and some other items)

He simply preferred spending time wcing and doing combat than doing some merchanting. I have lots of respect for that dude ^^'.Period.
