Those are indeed partitions I would assume. Though check your specifications to be sure on what you have. I wouldn't recomend playing around with those unless you know what you're doing. They often write your recovery files onto one of those, so losing the partition wouldn't be good. It would mean that later on you wouldn't be able to restore your OS if you ran into a problem.

The best course of action would be to buy an external hard drive to use for your backup. Keep your internal for Vista, Windows isn't necessarily known to run well off of external drives.
