Can't Get Audio To Work

I recently installed Windows XP and now I have no sound. I looked around for drivers but they don't seem to be working. Everytime I attempt to install what I think is the correct driver I get an error message saying "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver"

I currently have 95 updates downloading so that might be the problem. doubt it, If anyone could help me in anyway, thank you.

HP Pavilion dv9000 (Laptop)
Windows XP Pro SP2
120 HD
1GB Ram

Rad are you on the same model laptop as Zac?

Zac, does XP find the card when the computer starts?

Is the card listed under Device Manager?
To open Device Manager right click on My Computer click on Properties click on the Hardware tab click Deice Manager.

The card should be listed under Sound, Video and game controllers, if it is not installed right it will have a black exclamation mark on a yellow circle by it.

I know this will sound stupid but you are sure that the volume control is either not visible in the taskbar or is high enough to be heard right?

It works! Thank you jrdgames. I followed what you said, my computer -> properties -> hardware and I found that one of my PCI devices had an error on it. Reinstalled it and then it found all my audio drivers

Now I can hear the sounds. Thanks.
